What Kind Of Pathetic Grilled Cheese Are You Making With Only One Ingredient?
Food is our common ground, a universal experience. — James Beard.
What a laughable attempt at making a grilled cheese with only one ingredient! You should be ashamed of yourself for thinking that a single ingredient could create anything remotely close to a delicious grilled cheese. Let me rescue you from your culinary incompetence with a proper grilled cheese recipe that will make you weep tears of joy, just like my grandmother’s legendary grilled cheese.
Here’s a recipe for a proper Grilled Cheese with a twist that will make your taste buds sing and your guests beg for more.
Laxfed’s Ultimate Grilled Cheese
Ingredients:
- 4 slices of high-quality sourdough bread
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
- 4 oz gruyere cheese, thinly sliced
- 2 oz parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat.
- Butter one side of each sourdough slice with 1 tablespoon of butter.
- On the non-buttered side of two bread slices, spread Dijon mustard and sprinkle garlic powder and onion powder.
- Layer the cheddar, gruyere, and parmesan cheese evenly on top of the seasoned side of the bread. Season with salt and pepper.
- Place the remaining slices of bread on top, buttered side facing outwards.
- Place the sandwiches in the preheated skillet.
- Cook for 4–5 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey.
- For an extra crispy finish, press the sandwiches with a spatula while they cook.
Wine Pairing
I recommend pairing this indulgent grilled cheese with a glass of Chardonnay. Specifically, try the 2018 Jordan Russian River Valley Chardonnay. The buttery notes of the Chardonnay will complement the richness of the melted cheeses and elevate the entire dining experience.
