Summary

A person is perplexed by the presence of an unspecified object left in their space, which leads to a series of events culminating in a mysterious girl's appearance who claims responsibility and promises not to repeat the mistake.

Abstract

The narrative begins with an individual in a state of confusion over an object that has appeared in their space without their doing. Despite their certainty of innocence, the object's presence prompts anxiety when someone knocks at the door. The individual contemplates hiding or fleeing to avoid being associated with the object. Eventually, a young girl enters, picks up the object, and apologizes for leaving it there, assuring that it won't happen again before departing. The encounter leaves the narrator with lingering questions about the girl's identity and purpose, as well as a sense of anticipation for potential future interactions.

She Left The Door Open

I didn’t do it. I knew I didn’t. But there it was. How did it get there?

There came a knock at the door. I didn’t want to answer. What if they saw it. They would want to know why.

I don’t know why?

The knock came again. Maybe I can hide. They won’t know I’m here. I’ll get in the closet.

Another knock. I’ll go out the back way. Nobody will know.

The knob turned, in walked a small girl. She walked up to it. Picked up its broken body.

She looked as if right through me and said. “Sorry, I left this here. It won’t happen next time.”

She turned and left as quickly as she came.

Who was she? What did she do? Why was she here?

Did this really happen?

Will she be back?

She left the door open!

Thanks for reading. There are other places you could have been but you chose to be here. Did it leave you wanting more? Me too.
