What I’ve learnt from publishing for 30 days
There is something more important than publishing each day
30 days ago I started the challenge to publish something every day for 30 days. I can now happily announce that I succeeded in this challenge. This is my 30th story. I forced myself to write something doesn’t matter the length, here some insights it gave me — to connect again to my brief insight stories.
Don’t overthink it
Perfection doesn’t exist. If I had unlimited time to publish the same couple of hundreds of words, even in 10 days I could find something that I don’t like any more. Posting every day stops you from aspiring perfection and enables you to get things done.
Create a routine
It’s not about publishing or writing every day. It is about creating a habit of writing regularly. After some time you’ll find the best time of the day to write. For me, it’s after waking up or before going to bed when words flow. To create a habit having the mission to publish something every day was a great way of pushing myself towards actually writing daily.
Keep notes of your thoughts
You’ll be surprised what thoughts can trigger. One idea can start to collide into others and somehow connect to a different topic. When writing it down you manifest it. Formulate an idea on 2–3 sentences,
It doesn’t need much time to write something
It’s not about having the time, but finding and dedicating it. There are days when writing 300 days happened rapidly and others when you can’t find the words or ideas that you want to write down. The basic idea of what you want to say is written down fast but editing a draft will occupy most of the time.
Don’t force it
Often the best ideas occur when being in a mental state of ease. Don’t force yourself to write something, find rest and take your time. Write when you feel like it.
Stop checking your stats
Too often do I find my self mindlessly opening the medium app just to see If there is a new notification on my bell or to check my stats. Neither will it change your stats nor does it make you happier. It’s just a new way of wasting your time.
It’s not about the number of words
A lot can be said in little words while little can be said in plenty of words.
These are my favourite post from the last 30 days:
This was my finish line of the ILLUMINATION 30-day writing challenge by Dr Mehmet Yildiz described in this article.
