What It Takes To Win the Heart of Every Medium Writer

As a writer, you can’t even lie that you don’t get moved by these acts

I know we are all here to earn a little or more from our writing. But while we do this, I just hope we have been able to experience these acts.

Trust me! There are many ways to make a writer happy than just reading their work or merely reacting to it.

Every writer should utilize them in supporting their writer friends, every reader should use them to promote their favorite writers.

These acts would make them feel a tingle in their heart.

Even if they have just 10 claps on an article, they will still be as happy as a chap.

Even when they have not yet been curated like me, they will still put on a wild smile and have a reason to publish another day.

As a writer or reader on Medium, these acts are enormous. But I have analyzed them as popular and unpopular.

You might have felt some before as a writer, and others you’ve never felt before.

The Popular Ways

1. Being an honest Pinocchio

If you are a reader, you might not want to admit this fact, and if you are a writer, you have probably felt this act.

What do I mean by being an honest Pinocchio?

Most readers will barely read an article to the end. Just as some are doing with this article right now, even those who read it will do so in exchange for a read.

But if you want to spark a light in the writer of such an article. Leave an honest comment about the article or any highlighted sentence.

Leave a comment that shows that you read the article.

It works magic for me as a writer, because it makes me feel that my writing has influenced someone.

2. Becoming their early bird

As a writer, you would agree you feel a long-lasting pinch of fulfillment when you get that one or two notifications from Medium that reads “You just gained a new email subscriber .”

It is one good way to get to a Medium Writer.

It just means that someone likes their craft enough to want to be part of the first few people to know once another article is published.

If you claim to love any writer and you haven’t subscribed to their story. Well, you’re probably a dishonest Pinocchio.

3. 50 or nothing

You probably guessed this one.

I know! But it’s true.

What good is your clap if you can’t wait enough to give that 4–5 seconds long 50claps.

This is almost the last thing you can do for any writer. But only if you read their work. Please, no writer would want to have 1k claps and just three reads on their stat.

Hence, if you want to win the heart of a writer, jam those hands… Clap! Clap! Clap!

4. Using the $2 port

You know what this is. Right?

Every Medium writer will be super happy if, after reading their article, you then go on to use their referral link to become a member.

I don’t know how this works for other writers, but for me, it’s a whole lot. Reading that dark shiny $2 referred member earnings sentence on my stat page every week makes me happy.

It doesn’t just mean I was able to earn a $2 referral fee or deliver a good message in the article, but the reader trusted me enough to help give them that Medium member badge.

The Unpopular Ways

1. Send their words to the bird icon

I saw this in an article, and I tried it first for a few Medium Writer friends. I knew from their reply that they were happy.

Most folks don’t even wait long enough to read an article, let alone highlight or worse, tweet a sentence.

But if you want to make a writer happy. That’s a writer who uses Twitter. What you should do is tweet their article.

The app will automatically tag them, and they will be more than happy to see this act. It happened to me once, and I felt a unique feeling.

The fact is, I didn’t even know the performance of the article, but whenever I see it on my published list, I always remember that tweet.

2. Viral tag them

I don’t know how this works because I have never had a viral (11k views upwards) article before.

But I have had a semi-viral article before which had close to 8k views, and even while I’m writing this article, I wish I had tagged some of my close Medium writer friends on that article.

They would have gotten so many visitors on their page too.

Even if they are not aware, they will feel happy about the new stream of views and reads they will get.

As a writer, you can’t be too sure if your article will go viral. But if you feel that tiny little faith that the article you are writing might blow through the roof, why not tag your Medium writer friends and support them with those few views from inquisitive readers?

That way, you might spark a gentle smile on their faces.

3. External wins

Finally, if you wish to win the heart of a Medium writer. Then give or help them secure a job outside Medium.

Thank you so much for reading my article today. My gratitude towards you knows no bound. I would be publishing another article very soon.
