What Is Your Why?
I write for a few reasons. I love writing. I also enjoy that I’m able to earn through my words on Medium. The passion for writing and the income alone are great reasons.
But they aren’t my why.
My why is being able to wake up at 11 am on a Tuesday next to my future wife. My why is being able to spend time with my future kids, picking them up from school, and eating dinner with them. It’s going to my son's football games and my daughter's dance classes.
It sounds like my why isn’t a reason at all. Aren’t these things that are just common? My mum is a warrior when it comes to work. It has had its costs though. There have been periods in my life where I have felt like I haven’t seen her in weeks. She will be out of the house before I’m awake and getting in bed before I get back home.
All because she needs the money, and so the hours in work stack up. She never buys herself anything either. It all goes on bills. I want to keep a roof over my family’s heads but I want to see them grow too. Is that too much to ask?
With the world in the state it is in, it seems so. The cost of living rises, and it’s either earn enough to survive or well… don’t. I want to live, not just survive.
I just want the basics. Enough money to not worry about running out of food, or having to turn the heating off, enough money to be able to watch my kids become adults. Enough money to spend time with those I love.
Is that too much to ask?
And, what is your why?
