Summary

Vocal.Media is a writing platform that allows writers to earn money based on the number of views their articles receive, with enhanced earnings for Vocal+ members.

Abstract

Vocal.Media is an online platform that compensates writers for their content based on viewership. Writers earn 3.8 per 1,000 views, which increases to 6.8 for Vocal+ members who pay a monthly fee. The platform accepts a wide range of content and pays writers through Stripe. Vocal.Media is owned by Jerrick Media and offers writers a way to monetize their work without relying on membership views, as is the case with Medium. Writers can also earn through challenges sponsored by companies and reader tips. While the platform has a high CPM and accepts diverse stories, it faces criticism for weak SEO, lack of reader follow options, and an inability to edit published content. Despite these drawbacks, some writers have managed to earn significant passive income by leveraging Vocal.Media's monetization model.

What is Vocal.Media?

Vocal.Media is a platform for writers to make money. You can publish content and get more views and for every view, you get paid. For every thousand views on your articles could generate $3.8. Unlike Medium, which pays you only for getting views from Medium members, Vocal.Media pay you for every single reader. It doesn’t matter the source of the traffic unless and until you are getting real human readers on your Vocal articles.

I find Vocal to be one of the best platforms for writers. It is not as good as Medium for search engine optimization but if you could bring traffic to your Vocal articles then you could make much more money. Vocal.Media is a platform owned by Jerrick Media. Jerrick Media holds a lot of other technology companies.

I will subscribe to the Vocal+ program only if I had 1,000 on average every day.

How to get evergreen views on your Vocal.Media articles?

The vocal isn’t very optimized for the search traffic but you can easily be ranked for the low-competitive keyword on Google or other search engines if you put little effort into ranking your articles.

  1. Keyword research: Now, this is a tricky part, not every low-competition and high volume keyword could work for you in case of the Vocal.Media because of that “.Media” extension is a really bad sign of ill-branding and weak search engine optimization practices. So, you could use this technique but you have to do other things to make your Vocal story getting ranked on Google.
  2. The long-form content: There are numerous case studies where it has been concluded that long-form content of more than 2500+ words ranked very easily compared to content that is just 1,000 words long. So, to get evergreen traffic on your Vocal articles, you need to write super-long-form content.
  3. Publish frequently: Publish one big piece every week but do this every single week. Don’t just write for money but for building a hustle. There are literally people making $50 a day passively from Vocal because they have started very early on the platform.

How does Vocal make money?

I mean if I pay you then I am either just giving away my money or I have a source that is paying me.

Vocal makes money through three ways but they might add ads or any more monetization ways in the future but right now they use three ways to makes money.

  1. Vocal+: This isn’t really their monetization way if a writer plays smart and gets it when he has enough views to 4x his income. As for the same 1,000 views, you make $6.8 instead of $3.8. They only make money if a writer gets Vocal+ membership without getting any views.
  2. The Challenges: Companies approach them to run a challenge, like writing an article about what is the future home you want? or anything related to the topics that could contribute to the knowledge of a corporate. The writers as well as the Vocal parent company make some money through this method.
  3. Tipping: They also give the readers the opportunity to Tip to a writer from $2 to $20 and they take some share in the Tip. This is a real monetization way where they could make a huge amount of money.

  • They accept every type and kind of story on their platform. Erotica? Yes.
  • You can publish already published content on Vocal but you should have the right to publish it.

Cons;

  • The search engine optimization of Vocal is very weak.
  • The platform has no way people could follow you and you grow your readership.
  • You can’t edit the publish content or neither delete it. You can only delete it if you email the support team.
  • Vocal.Media doesn’t have clear goals and missions of how they are going to monetize the content?
  • You can’t publish your story in real-time. You have to submit it and then the editors will revive and publish it.

Vocal Media is a good platform and supported by a big player in the online publishing business. In the future, they might add a new way to monetize their content but right away they have a very impressive CPM compared to the other big publishing platforms like YouTube or blogs.
