What Is The Simple Meaning Of Life?
In fact, it is death itself that gives meaning to life.
I had a shocking passing of a dear in-law two weeks ago, who was buried yesterday. Like other family members, I pondered the meaning of life and why we had to die. And for each of us, the prospect of death comes up once in a while, especially when someone we know passes away.
As humans, we all face death, some continue to struggle with it, while others prepare for the journey that is sure to come. Some people say attaching meaning to our lives is what differentiates us from other living things, such as animals and plants.
There is no way we are able to discuss the meaning of life without going back to the scriptures, especially the two main ones, Christianity and Islam. I cannot say much about the Islamic religion, but I want to assume the core is the same as Christianity. The two religions teach love to God and fellow men. The purpose of man is to serve God, improve in spiritual character, and build a life worthy of eternal gardens.
Surely there must be more to life than
waking up in the morning,
dressing up to go to work,
coming back home,
relaxing,
sleep and then
REPEAT………until then we die.
Surely, man is a lot worth more than that.
The Philosophies Regards The Meaning Of Life
Know Your Reason — Springer Research indicates those who uphold the reason why they are doing something, whatever it is always enjoy a more fulfilling life than those who don’t. It is knowing who you are and being convinced of it, as well as holding up to your principles in life. Of course, before you can do that, you must be a disciplined person. You must also remember the fleeting time. Everyone has his/her time. No one is here forever.
Krishna once warned, ‘’Remember death daily, that you may live life fully.’’
Goals and Coherence mean that all things that happen to us do so for some purpose, and if we look closely, they seem to fit together like a puzzle. We are baffled when these happen and wonder if there is a guiding light all along our path. This can give us a nudge as to whether there is a meaning to all the events after all.
Some events happening this way could give some of us hope that all is not lost. Do you wake up with daily motivation and hope? Then you are closer to your life’s meaning than you thought.
Called To Make A Difference: Do you believe you are blessed in life, in a way to make a difference in someone’s life, or in a situation? That could be your own idea of meaning in life.
I was volunteering at a food bank called ‘COMMUNITY KITCHEN’. I later got to know that the person who initiated this service is a Polish ex-pat. When she moved to London, she was shocked by the huge amount of food displayed in supermarket isles.
She later inquired how much is sold and what happens to the unsold ones. The unsold ones are destroyed. She was shocked. She set up a campaign to give these to interested individuals.
Now volunteers arrange collections, and churches open their doors as distribution centres all over the UK. Some people with excess garden produce also bring them for distribution etc.
When she was interviewed, she mentioned, she was fulfilled that she has been called to her life meaning, here in the UK.
A Life Of Service — It often directs us to a life of meaning. This indicates the ethic of love for others, deep enough to want to go the extra mile. We have the young and old doing this, with examples of David Attenborough, and Greta Thunberg.
Clusters Of Good values that transcend the ordinary, according to the Stanford Encyclopedia quote below:
‘’Pressing further, is there something that the values of the good, the true, the beautiful, and any other logically possible sources of meaning involve? There is, as yet, no consensus in the field. One salient view is that the concept of meaning in life is a cluster or amalgam of overlapping ideas, such as fulfilling higher-order purposes, meriting substantial esteem or admiration, having a noteworthy impact, transcending one’s animal nature, making sense, or exhibiting a compelling life-story’’
The Takeaways

- “It does not matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered, or how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that matters,” Amit Ray,
