What Is NPC and How Is Pinkydoll Cashing In On This Trend?

Some of us still have to work in the morning, but should we be mad at her?

This blog was formerly Erica J’s Medium. it is now revamped as a blog to share thoughts and perspectives on viral stories while keeping it clean, classy, and relevant. The writing style will remain the same. Welcome!

On my Substack, I did a 16-minute podcast on where content creation is heading and why Pinkydoll and others like her are leading the pack on this new cash cow moment.

Introducing NPC and its dolls

In my podcast, I explain that first of all, I do not know what NPC means(I now know it means Non-Playable Character). The Tik Toker sounds like a monotone, or super happy android calling out emojis like an auctioneer.

Even now, Pinkydoll(I never knew who she was before), is cashing in at $7,000 per day, announcing emojis from home right on Tik Tok, and currently her “ice-cream so good” video is going viral. The other way to go viral is to “be out of character”. In one video, Pinkydoll is distracted by her son and is caught off guard, generating over 200,000 likes. Reportedly, she spends 6 hours a day doing this.

The question burning on everyone’s mind is: How come we still have to get up in the morning and go to jobs we hate, while they do this?

The reason is because any job we decide to do, whether it be our own business or someone else’s, requires time and dedication.

Pinkydoll is making life look quite easy since we are the viewer and only catch but minutes of her video, but what does it take to make a video like that for any content creator?

Content creation takes work. Certainly there are times when I throw on a quick Tik Tok video recommending a book, but overall, I have to plan and edit my videos before I post. There are so many moving parts to creating content:

  • Mental
  • Research
  • Financial

To create videos, you must be confident. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. You are in front of the entire world. If you are not confident, do not do videos. Period. This takes a hearty mental fortitude because it is similar or no different than being a movie star.

Secondly, you must research who you are audience is. When is the best time of day to post? What is the demographic of people who watch/read your content? Pinkydoll claims she spends 6 hours on her videos before we even see her content.

Finally, to put the most into your content, it requires that you always have internet access, an updated phone, the right lighting and camera equipment, etc. For those of us who do affiliate marketing, we purchase the items(in my case, books) to review and promote. This costs money and we can only hope to make a small profit after posting up our content.

At the end of the day, Pinkydoll and others who are into NPC are having fun and earning while doing it. Will I ever do something like this? Probably not. I’m not into it. However, as Drake once said, “As long as the outcome is income” is all that matters.
