What is Khichadification and why I need to know about it?
Let’s figure out the hidden meaning behind this word “khichadification” of medical practice.

Today, I came to know about a new word in the medical field, and it’s none other than the “khichadification” of medical education and practice. It should be added to the medical dictionary for the massive uproar it creates.
If you are not familiar with the Urdu/Hindi language then it’s quite impossible for you to cherish the real meaning out of this word.
A little about the background story
It’s all started when the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) assigned a notification a few days back. In this notification, they legally authorized post-graduate Ayurveda practitioners to be trained to perform general surgical procedures. How can this be authorized?
They didn’t even realize how outrageous it would be for the rest of the medical community.
The CCIM notification listed 39 general surgery procedures and around 19 procedures involving the eye, ear, nose and throat by amending the Indian Medicine Central Council (Post Graduate Ayurveda Education). Source
In response to this, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) took action on 24 November. They condemned the move by describing it as a “retrograde step of mixing the systems”.
They demanded the immediate withdrawal of this notification that was initially issued by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM).
They called this act as a “khichadification”, or a confused mix, of medical education and practice.
Now coming back to the main point of writing this article which is basically about figuring out the hidden meaning behind this word.
The meaning of khichdification
When I read this article for the first time, I was honestly taken aback by their clever use of the term “khichdification” in addressing this heated issue.
They put together the two words of English and Urdu (or Hindi) to validate their point. The first-word khichdi is taken from the Urdu/ Hindi language which is widely spoken in this country and the second word probably means identification.
My focus is on the khichdi word because it is where the entire idea comes from. They showed their angst and mixed beliefs by manipulating this word.
Interestingly, Khichdi is an Urdu word which means a confused mixture. They addressed their issue by deeming this move as a “khichadification”, or a confused mix, of medical education and practice.
Moreover, it’s also a popular dish in South Asian cuisine made of combining rice, lentils, and meat to bring out a unique taste.
