You are going to find out what exactly causes this to occur, and how to fight against it so you will never have that feeling again.
Let’s dive in!
What is imposter syndrome?
Imposter syndrome is characterized by feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy, despite evidence of one’s accomplishments and abilities.
The people who suffer from imposter syndrome often believe that they are not deserving of their success and fear being exposed as frauds.
While imposter syndrome is not an official diagnosis, it can have a significant impact on an individual’s mental health, career, and relationships.
By understanding imposter syndrome and learning how to cope with it, we can work towards building more confidence and achieving our goals.
Understanding Imposter Syndrome
Imposter syndrome is a psychological phenomenon where individuals doubt their accomplishments and have a persistent fear of being exposed as fraud, despite evidence of their competence.
Imposter syndrome can affect anyone, regardless of their background or level of success.
It is most commonly experienced by high-achieving individuals, such as successful businesspeople, academics, and artists.
The unfortunate people with imposter syndrome often have perfectionist tendencies and set unrealistic expectations for themselves. They may also have a fear of failure or a belief that their success is due to luck, rather than their abilities.
When we experience imposter syndrome, we may feel a range of negative emotions, such as anxiety, self-doubt, shame, and guilt.
We may worry that we’re not good enough, that we’ll be exposed as a fraud, or that we’ll fail to meet others’ expectations.
We may also feel isolated and alone as if we’re the only ones who struggle with these feelings.
Luckily, we can combat all of this…
How to combat imposter syndrome
Imposter syndrome is a battle with your head. You are no imposter, you are amazing and skilled at what you do.
Just because you have a brain fart or a stupid moment at one point in life doesn’t change the fact that you are just like everyone else. Know that you are not alone with these feelings of doubt you get sometimes.
Recognize when you feel like you are an imposter, and always just remove that thought from your head. Let go of your inner perfectionist and realize that we, as humans, will make mistakes.
Visualize the success you want to have and become consciously aware of the conversation that is going on in your head.
