What If You Were God?

A thought experiment on perspective.

Allow us to try a thought experiment, friend. Let’s genuinely take a moment to take on the viewpoint of God. Any God.

I speak from no religious standpoint, merely sincere curiosity.

Regardless of your beliefs or convictions on any subject relating to the matter let us honestly, and genuinely, attempt to view things from the perspective of God.

First, allow yourself to accept the responsibility of creating the universe. Yes, for this thought experiment you created the universe. Everything inside of it and everything that’s happening.

What was once an infinite chasm of nothingness has now become your sandbox beaming with the raw ingredients to harbor life in each and every corner you so choose.

This universe came about simply because you decided that it would.

You made the decision, and so it was. The universe began.

Pretty remarkable that you can do such a thing with pure thought. I find it admirable.

Furthermore, as you’ve watched the raw materials of your explosive expansion that is your universe turn from atoms to form solid objects you notice everything begin to take shape.

Almost as if it was destined to take the shape it did. However, you knew that. You knew how it would all play out from the beginning, you’re simply enjoying a show now. Watching your creation flourish. On its own.

You see planets begin to form and beam with life. While watching others, at the same time, parish under their own weight taking everything within their reach along with it.

While watching this all unfold you can’t help but be amazed at everything you’ve made come before you. It’s self-sustaining. It’s flourishing. It’s your creation.

It is absolutely beautiful.

Until it isn’t.

Millenia Begin to Pass.

As time continues on and your universe behaves in the way you so decided for it to behave you find yourself becoming used to things.

You know everything that has occurred, you know everything that is currently occurring, and you know everything that will eventually happen and exactly how it’ll end up.

This is your creation, after all, and it exists simply because you decided it so.

With all this cosmic knowledge and all this time coming to pass you can’t help but feel bored.

The excitement of the beginning of this universe has passed, and the watching of things suddenly becomes unnecessary.

It’s no different than the very life you’ve watched flourish before you mindlessly watch TV after their 9–5.

You know everything. You created everything. This is no longer exciting this is boring.

And you have a literal eternity of time waiting for you.

What are you to do?

Create a Game.

You think to yourself “What if I could go back to the beginning? What if I could feel what it felt like to not know what was going to happen? To feel what it was like right before the moment I decided the universe to boom and expand?”

You begin to create a brilliant game.

“What if I could be a part of the very universe I created. What if I could play the game of life that is played by the Beings that inhabit my planets. What if I could know what it’s like to not know any longer.”

You put together all the pieces of your game.

You make it possible for you, a god, to inhabit a mortal carbon-based body. A human body.

Of course, every game must come with rules.

Rule #1 When you inhabit a body. The body must die. There is no immortality when playing the game of life. You cannot die, you know this. But your body must die along with everyone else’s.

Rule #2 Creation can no longer be instant. Creation is to be slowed down. Time and Effort are factors of all things being created. This creates the illusion that you are like everyone else. Mortal.

Rule #3 Upon entering a body, you must forget that you are a God. You must forget that you are immortal. You will forget everything that you are capable of. You will forget everything you have ever done.

The final rule will extend between lifetimes. When choosing to enter another body to play the game of life all over again you will forget everything. You begin each life a completely clean slate.

You set up a perfect system on one of your planets. You set the game up so well that you could not break the rules even if you wanted to. This is your final creation of your universe before embarking on the game of life.

You set this game up so perfectly that winning the game would essentially mean finding the way out.

Figure out a way to remember all that you are, and everything you’ve done.

Find a way to free yourself from the game and remember once more that you are not mortal, and you are not human, you Are.

This is the game.

Before taking the leap into planet Earth you take one last look over the universe that you created with a simple decision. You glance down at the planet and look at the mechanisms you’ve set in place to ensure the perfection of your game.

Your Game of Life.

You are still. You contemplate silently if this is something you really want to do.

This is possibly permanent. There is a tremendous possibility that you might not find your way out. But, hey, that’s the point right? Otherwise, it wouldn’t be a game.

“You’re a God.” you think to yourself.

“You wouldn’t really do this…Would you?”
