What If? You Knew a Little More about Me

I am a relentless seeker of excellence and kindness.

If you don’t see that your story matters, chances are no one else will either. So even though it isn’t always easy, it’s important for you to find the strength to share your truth. Because the world needs to hear it. — Michelle Obama

Here is the truth. I have started this introduction over a dozen times. The perfectionist who lives in my head stood firm to remind me that others wrote better, had more interesting lives…I could go on.

My second hurdle — I am a stalwart introvert who has learned to stand in front of hundreds of people, smile in a crowd, and brave the world of extroverts. My experience in debate and drama in high school helped bridge the chasm, but the energy expended can take its toll.

On My Own

In 2012, I began consulting working primarily in education. I‘ve also worked with manufacturing, oil services, health care, and government.

Processes fascinate me. The word “why?” intrigues me. My relentless pursuit of excellence for myself and others never waivers.

I am a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, a Fellow for the Quality Texas Foundation, served on the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and an American Society for Quality Senior Member.

There you have it a certified quality geek!

A Life in Transition

Change sneeks up on us. A tug in my heart began searching for more. A longing began to push its way in, and it would not let go.

I began writing when I was five years old drawing scribbles (my words) in Big Chief tablets and on a chalkboard. Don’t ask me what it all said, but I’m sure it was important.

Fast forward. Two collegues asked me to write a college textbook on transformation in organizations. “Sure, why not?” Not exactly a New York Times bestseller candidate, but I learned I could write a book. Then, I began dabbling at writing on my blog.

The tug and yearning continued. Hidden on a shelf, I found stacks of journals and bits of paper yellowed and tattered with my thoughts spanning from high school through the 1990s. More proof.

I Am a Writer

Somewhere I read a quote that when it hurts more to NOT write than to write — you are a writer. That doesn’t mean it comes easily to me. The words in my head fight their way onto the page.

Time for action. I made a commitment to write on my blog every day, and I did — until. This is what happened…
