What If Shakespeare Wrote on Medium?

One question that keeps me up at night

I love asking the question “What If?”

Every writer should be asking this question if they don’t already. It’s one of the best writing prompts there is.

But sometimes it helps to wonder about many other things in the literary world. One day last week, I had this thought:

What if Shakespeare Wrote on Medium?

Well, first of all, that would be one of the coolest sites to see. He would be a Top Writer in no time, but then it got me thinking about other things like this.

I Think He Would Enjoy Medium

Throughout his 52 years of life, he was a prolific author. He’s regarded as the best writer in the English language.

In total, he wrote:

  • 39 plays
  • 154 sonnets
  • And 3 long narrative poems.

He wrote famous and timeless classics like “Romeo and Juliet” and “Hamlet,” and most of his shows are still being performed today. But what would he do on Medium.

Because of his prolific writing career, I think he would enjoy Medium because he would be able to write a lot.

They say he always struck up ideas. Just like a good writer should be doing. I think he would be constantly witting and publishing articles on the platform.

I don’t think he would get enough of it.

Hopefully, he would find time to write other plays and sonnets, but I think he would publish an article a day. I would certainly subscribe to his email list.

He would enjoy the platform very much so. If only it was around during his time.

Medium Would Allow Him to Write Whatever He Wanted

The platform allows to write whatever we would like to write.

Shakespeare wrote in all kinds of genres like romance, comedy and suspense. He would fit right in with all of us.

His creative juices would constantly be flowing. Who knows, maybe he would write even more classics.

If only he could try it out now.

Nevertheless, Medium would let Shakespeare be free and write what he pleases, something he already did in his career. He enjoyed doing so and his work reflects on it.

If we take anything away from him, it’s that we all should write what we want. We should write what gets us out of bed in the morning and what we can’t stop thinking about.

That’s the way writing should be.

Closing Thoughts

Maybe this article idea alone could turn into something bigger than what it is.

It’s interesting to think what would happen if Shakespeare wrote for Medium. I think he would want to get to know as many of us writers as he could while honing his skills.

Something we all should be doing.

He will never write on the platform with all of us, but it’s never a bad idea for wishful thinking.
