What if, instead of guns and sanctions …
A plea for peace in Ukraine

What if, instead of guns and sanctions … All the choirs in the world turn their voices toward Russia and Ukraine And sing out, in perfect harmony, songs of peace so that all hear?
What if, instead of soldiers and missiles … All the painters in the world throw paint on canvases Making images of beauty until everyone stops to look?
What if, instead of destroying homes and buildings … Architects design restorative sanctuaries So that all who enter are reminded of our capacity to care?
What if, instead of bombs blasting and smoke arising … Dancers invite all the world to join in shared movements, Our bodies connecting with each other in joyful celebrations of life?
What if, instead of the language of war and power … Poets everywhere speak heartfelt reminders of the ravages of war, And the healing power of love.
What if, instead of spending on trauma and terror and death … We fund the arts to help us bring forth a creative response So that all can flourish?
I call upon the artist within each of us to unify and strengthen our plea for peace in Ukraine.
