What If Hitler Had Won WWII?

Chilling alternative had Nazi Germany won the WWII

The Allies, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and others, ultimately defeated Nazi Germany in 1945, Had history taken slightly different turns at any of these junctures, Hitler could well have achieved his dream of total conquest of Europe. But what would have happened then?

Continued Occupation

Hitler believed that if World War II had been won, there would have been World War III, then World War IV, and so on, until Germany had ruled the entire planet. Following the initial triumph in Europe, Germany would have formally annexed the Nordic nations of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, as well as the German-speaking part of Switzerland, that Hitler considered to be Nordic. More than half of the whole Russian empire would have fallen under the harsh “General Government” of Poland, which would have expanded into the old Soviet Union as far as 70 degrees east longitude. The entire area would have been turned into a huge labor pool of expendable slaves. The remaining Soviet Union would be temporarily hosted by Japan. Except that Hitler intended to keep control of France, Great Britain, and Ireland, and turn Spain and Portugal into satellite nations, Mussolini would be allowed to acquire regions that were similar to those of the Roman Empire. He intended to retake the colonies Germany had lost after the First World War in sub-Saharan Africa and reclaim the remaining territories from defeated European states. Ultimately taking control of the globe which would have resulted in the Nazi regime’s continued repression, persecution, and territorial expansion.

Holocaust and Genocide

Without a doubt, the Nazis wanted to exterminate Jews and other “sub-humans” from every area they ruled. In order for the male survivors of conflicts that were predicted to result in the deaths of four million German troops to be able to impregnate enough German women to prevent a demographic decline, they also intended to eradicate Christianity and implement a governmental policy of polygamy. The systematic murder of millions of other minorities, including millions of Jews, would have continued if the Holocaust had not ended, causing considerably more agony and death.

Economic and Technological Advances

Nazi Germany may have increased its economic might if it had won the war. A strong economy might have resulted from the looting of occupied areas and the extraction of their resources. If more research and development were funded in a variety of sectors thanks to this economic strength, it might have had far-reaching consequences. They may have kept developing military technology, possibly creating more advanced and devastating weapons. This may have resulted in the creation of cutting-edge jet engines, long-range missiles, or possibly the first advances in nuclear technology. Any technological or scientific progress made under these conditions would be tainted by the inhumane practices and atrocities committed by the Nazi regime.

However, Hitler’s overall grand strategy — to conquer the rest of the world over time — would have run against a challenge that he doesn’t seem to have thought of. The rest of the world would have put aside its differences in the face of this apparent, huge, and unrelenting menace long before Nazi Germany could have accomplished its ultimate goal of world domination. In contrast, it is unclear that Germany would have ever obtained the capability to project forces across the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean, much less the Pacific. The German victory will probably not last long in the end. Given the imminent threat of nuclear war, it is incredibly unlikely that one nation could rule a vast empire spanning the entire planet. All of this is presuming, of course, that Germany did not already have nuclear weapons when the US did. The idea of a fascist Nazi state in charge of nuclear weapons is undoubtedly terrifying, and I doubt that anyone would ever even want to consider such a scenario.
