What I Wish I Knew in My Teenage & 20-Something Years

It’s never too late to start, so here I am trying to better plan for my future.

My coworkers were invited by their alumni network to come back to their university to talk about the work we do and asked me to join them.

I was happy to take the trek down with them.

Fast forward a few weeks and I immediately felt super old around all the students!

During the panel they asked a lot of thoughtful questions about our experiences and some of the next steps they could take to better prepare for their futures.

One of the main takeaways I felt like sharing was how having due diligence behind your planning drives successful execution and positive outcomes.

What do I mean by that?

You don’t need to know it all and you certainly don’t need to know what you want to do for the rest of your life, but thinking about the areas you want to prioritize during the different seasons of your life before you get is a gamechanger.

For some they are money-motivated, others care more about experiences or just spend as much time as they can with family and friends.

When you have your goal in mind, work backwards to think about the steps you need to take to get there.

For me, I wanted to grow in my career, so I took the chance and moved across the country to broaden my opportunities to work with Fortune 500 companies.

Our possibilities are larger than we think, and with some extra effort and dedication, I’m a firm believer that we can beat out self-doubt and accomplish our goals.

Reflective question of the day: What do you want to prioritize the most with where you’re at in your life right now?

You can check out this story if you want to hear more about my decision to eventually move for work.
