PUBLICATION FEATURE

What I Read Yesterday!

Reading Relay: Fri. — 12/15/23

Yesterday was a busy day for me, offline, in the “real” world.

That meant that by the time I was finally able to sit down, catch my breath and relax, I was too beat to do much reading.

After a day of driving to and from the skilled nursing home, where my sister currently resides, I’m usually exhausted from the long ride, and frustrated from the traffic.

As a result, the nice, calm, Zen frame of mind that I like to be in when I start reading, was no where to be found.

Of course, I had hoped to get to at least a few Medium stories, but after the first two I read, I decided to go ahead and call it a night.

First let me tell you about the two stories I read, which happened to be by the same writer.

Then, I’ll tell you about the decision I came to and why…

Meet the writer I read yesterday

The following stories were written by Alina Pitt, a follower and talented writer that I’m just beginning to get acquainted with.

This first title I’ve listed, is pretty much a movie review, coupled with some thought provoking viewpoints from the writer.

I was glad I came across this story, because in it, I discovered that a movie I had originally decided against watching, was actually a project that the Obama’s were involved with.

I won’t give any spoilers about the story Alina wrote, although I scolded her in the comment section (lovingly), for possibly giving spoilers.

Actually, she did quite a good job, breaking down some interesting points about the movie, and helped to fuel my desire to see it.

I’ll be sure to return to Alina’s story after watching the movie, and leave my opinion about the film.

In the meantime, be sure to read:

The other story I read by her was:

Naturally, based on the provocative title, I was drawn to this story, that turned out to be packed full of profound details.

I also loved this writer’s artistic eye and use of images in the story as well.

I made a point to list these two titles after reading them, so I could mention them in the story you’re currently reading.

That’s when I realized that in some ways, my “What I Read Yesterday” series, was proving to be counterproductive.

The time and focus I was devoting to listing linked titles and naming writers, I could be getting more stories read.

I told myself to sleep on it, and give it more thought the next day.

As much as I wanted to stay up and continue reading more stories, my body was out for the count…

Final Thoughts

Personally, I don’t like trying to read, when I’m not fully alert, and able to give the content my undivided attention.

That is why I went to bed, when I knew my attention span was dwindling.

That is also why I woke up, and made the decision to make this the last What I Read Yesterday story.

I always knew this was just going to be a temporary publication feature, and I said so when I started a few stories ago.

When I began observing just how much of my “reading time” was focused on more than just reading, I knew it was time to pull the cord.

Just like so many other members who are creating listicles containing writers and titles; I enjoy tagging my followers who read what I write, once I’ve enjoyed one or two of their stories.

But trying to consistently provide those type of updates, has taken a big bite out of my reading time.

I’m not sure how other writers on Medium do it, but I can’t give 100% and get in full blown “reading mode”, when I’m stopping every so often to write.

My brain doesn’t work that way. I tend to do these in assembly-line style.

Since my main priority these days, is all about the “reading”, I need to do what I can, to keep my head in the game.

So after today, it’s back to focusing on reading and commenting, and providing less frequent written updates.

But don’t worry folks, I’ll still be sure to keep you posted, and continue passing the baton.

Until the next time, make sure you didn’t miss any stories from the last four “yesterdays”.
