What I Read This Week — The Highlights
For the week of February 11, 2024
Reading has a beautiful way of opening our minds to new possibilities, points of view, and ways of thinking. It allows us to expand our knowledge, broaden our worldview, and connect with others whose life experiences are quite different from our own.
Being a part of this community of readers and writers here on Medium has provided me a unique sense of connection with such thoughtful people in my time here. I do feel truly blessed and grateful for each one of you who shares your words here on this platform.
This week, I read 25 stories here on Medium:
Admittedly, it’s not as much as I usually read here. But lately, I have gotten back into reading fiction, too. So, for Valentine’s day, I took myself to Barns and Noble and bought a stack of books. I started reading Influence when I was waiting to get my car fixed, and I was so engrossed that I spent the rest of the day reading it.
This is a book about teen influencers, their daily struggles with being constantly recognizable when they go out, and what it is like to grow up under a microscope. Throw in a murder, and it becomes a gripping tale that you can’t put down until the end!
Every week here on Medium, I like to keep track of all the stories I have read with the Lists feature, so I can share them with you all and highlight some of my favorites.
The first story I want to share with you this week comes from Colleen Sheehy Orme, and talks about one of the most important questions you should ask while dating. This isn’t something that most of us do, and if we were to start it could greatly increase the quality of our relationships.
Secondly, I want to share a story from Simply Sophia, which is geared towards the parents of transgender young people. If you have a child come out, it can make you question a lot of things, and learning to parent your child differently in order to show true compassion and love is critical for their future.
Finally, I want to highlight a story from Unsquashablegirl®️, which talks about choosing your relationships carefully. Often, we find ourselves in relationships just because someone has chosen us. But it is important to remember that we have the power of choice too. I have struggled with this in my own life, and many of you may have too.
I chose a relationship theme for this week’s articles in honor of Valentine’s day, and I hope you enjoy reading these perspectives on what it means to have better relationships with our friends, lovers and children. Most importantly, though, remember your first relationship is with yourself. Honoring yourself in all your relationships can help you to live a better and more fulfilled life.
Have a beautiful week, my lovelies! Happy reading, and happy writing!
