What I Read This Week — The Highlights

For the week of January 7, 2024

When I was a kid, I spent a lot of my spare time in the library. Reading books was an outlet for being alone so much of the time, and going to the library was something my parents allowed me to do. It was a “safe” place for me to spend my time. And better yet, it was quiet.

As an adult, I don’t read as many books as I did as a kid. However, I do still immerse myself in the world of reading here on Medium. This community is a modern-day library, where we can find new stories around every corner. There are many topics to choose from, new perspectives to discover, and new stories to broaden our minds.

Reading helps us to change our worldview. We learn we change, and we grow from the things we read. We learn to critically analyze, we learn to connect with others through our words. We are lucky to be a part of this virtual library and have the capability to connect with authors right at our fingertips.

This week, I read 55 stories here on Medium.

Here are some of the ones that I would like to share with you.

The first story I want to feature this week comes from Shanti Bright Brien, and talks about the importance of repeating the same rituals in our lives to see how we have grown. Hers involves a difficult hike to challenge herself.

The second piece I want to feature is a poem by Thomas Plummer, which talks about how we all fade into being forgotten, like old photographs of previous generations. This resonated with me as a reflection on the impermanence of everything in our lives.

Finally, I want to share a spiritual piece by Marta Henriques, talking about how you know if you are a white witch. Though I am not a magical practitioner myself per se, I found myself agreeing with most, if not all, of these signs. See for yourself if you have magickal gifts as well!

I hope that this reading uplifts your heart and makes you think the way it did for me! I hope you all have a great week this week, my lovelies. Happy reading, and happy writing.
