What I Read this Week
SUNDAY: February 13, 2022

This week, the titles I’m highlighting from the list of 50 stories I remembered to log, are all based on a them that I call: “Get like me”. That’s because the stories I selected for this segment, all focus on specific topics that I previously covered myself.
I’ve always held the belief that great minds think alike, so I was happy to come across some stories that shared my views on various topics.
For instance:
Medium writer Bonnie Joy Sludikoff wrote a story called: Drafts Are My Secret Writing Weapon: Advice From A Productive Writer Who Has Commonly Been Called, “A Machine.”
She made some very valid points about the benefit of creating drafts, to help you become a more productive writer on Medium.
I not only agree with what she wrote, but I made some similar points in my recent story titled: Is it Better to Create a Story Draft or Simply Write Down Your Notes? This past August, I even shared a story on my own process for getting things done in my draft folder. It was called:
Another great example of “get like me” is this story:
Ilam Padmanabhan shared some interesting points about how to view your stats. Last year, this topic came to my attention as well. I wrote the story: The Truth About Claps and Followers is Not Really What You Think
Medium writer Graeme Sharpe shared his experience of what happened when he had to step away from Medium for a while. His story was titled: Whatever You Do — Don’t Stop Writing. This very thought provoking piece brought to mind some similar thoughts I had myself.
I shared them last year in: The Sad Truth About Taking a Break from Medium. Graeme’s story probably sounds familiar to a lot of us, and it’s definitely worth a read.
Anyone who read my recent story that was inspired by one of my favorite writers, Abena Talks, they know I was fired up about an increasing problem for online writers. The story was called: This is Why I Won’t Be Busting My Ass on Medium Any More!
It touched on a point that Kristy Kendall made in her story when she warned writers about her experience with News Break. She wrote the story:
Writer B Kean wrote on a topic that took me back to last year, and made me get in my feelings about the past MWC that no true Medium member actually won. The story: MWC Writing Contest Winner, Where Oh Where Have You Gone? managed to bring up some of those thoughts I had last year, when I wrote the story:
Some of the other stories I read, helped to influence what I plan to write this week. One example is the story about images that Susie Kearley wrote. I have to admit, this was some scary stuff.
Her story called: People are Being Sued for Using Creative Commons Images is definitely one every member should read. This is the inspiration for my upcoming story later this week: I Think I Know Why My Stories Stopped Getting Distributed! (Stay tuned for that one)
I also read a story by Mia Hayes that got me thinking about something else I had been planning to share in a story. Her story was titled: As a Former Poor Person, Grocery Shopping Still Makes Me Anxious.
This is something I can relate to all too well. I don’t have a title yet for my future story, but I know it will be something about me and my weird relationship with money now, after being poor for so long.
Some of the slightly humorous but relatable stories I read this past week had to do with dating. I guess it’s because this is the week of Valentine’s Day coming up. But I have to tell you, these stories turned out to be pretty crappy on the romantic level, but they sure made enjoyable reading.
Two in particular were:
I Ran Out And Left The Girl To Pay The Bill (I was stunned at what Robert Ralph admitted in this story), and Gone In 60 Seconds… I Was Ditched On a First Date (Carlyn Beccia is a brave soul to share her story, but we’ve probably all been there).
Writer Maria Rattray took the time out to write a story and give several notable writers a lift. Good for you Maria, so this is back at you for your story:
My girl Jan Sebastian shared a story about us creatives that I really loved. You’ll see what I mean when you read: Hey Writers, Are We Normal! I for one, know I’m anything BUT normal, so it was nice hearing that it’s okay to be that way. Thanks Jan!
As for the rest of the titles in this week’s list of 50 stories, there are some from my newer followers that I was happy to get a chance to read. But you’ll also find some from the usual suspects that I tune into on a regular basis, including:
Sherry McGuinn, Michael Burg, MD (AKA Medium Michael Burg), Susan Wheelock, David Perlmutter.
Please take the time out to enjoy these stories, as well as the rest of the titles you find in my list.
As usual, thanks for reading, and see you all next week!
