What I love (to write about) — Borut

I am an information security manager with a BA in Information Security. I have considerable experience in ISO systems management and auditing, information security consulting, personal data protection, quality management, processes, and organizational culture.

I have extensive operational experience in IT and the mentioned areas as a systems engineer. A few years ago, I joined a major international crypto financial institution as a Chief Information Security Officer (cISO).

During my recruitment process, the organization experienced an enormous data breach. Most of my colleagues advised against joining the company. But I consider myself extremely fortunate, as the situation presented a big challenge, and a new learning experience full of cognition.

I have joined a very dynamic team and experienced so many details of such a remarkable unprecedented event many never do. It was a huge learning platform for me to analyze all the small details that did and might have led to the disaster.

And since I always seek answers to the everlasting ‘Why’ that was an invaluable experience of seismic proportions.

I constantly seek and solve the ‘why’ mysteries to find better solutions. My obsession is to grow and develop my systems thinking skills. I am (self)critical and always in search of improvement.

I learned that personal growth largely depends on helping others. Hence I always look for opportunities to find better ways to do more. I know I can see other people’s problems more objectively. And that makes it easier to find solutions that are sometimes hiding in plain sight.

I love to write, but I am not skilled enough. I write far too long pieces. A real challenge on the road to mastery is to reduce writing to a minimum without losing any meaning of the story. Great quotes are the most condensed and brushed diamonds of writing masters. To explain in a few words — something that would take me at least a few paragraphs — is my top challenge.

I am adding links to a few of my older articles and promise to add some new ones soon:
