What I Have Learned After 800 Stories Published on Medium

I’ve learned what I am not.

I have learned that I deeply admire several writers, like Dr Mehmet Yildiz, Eve Arnold, Jenn Leach, Lawson Wallace, David Perlmutter, Kristen Stark, Burk, and Zulie Rane. I try to emulate and at least learn from them and many, many more.

What I have learned over the last 800 stories, is that, as much as I admire and enjoy reading these folk, I’m not them. I don’t do them very well. I do me.

I enjoy listening to Paul Cotton and Loudon Wainwright III, not because of any commercial success of their songs, but the way they write and perform them.

What I learned after 800 stories is that there are hundreds of things I should be doing that I don’t. I can smell the success from here, though.
