I love reading.

Reading is the best habit you can build to boost every part of your life.

I don’t mind reading an ebook, but I prefer a physical book.

The smell of new pages is magical.

But who has the time to sit down with a book in this highly distracted world where social media, especially video culture, is everywhere?

People (adults) spend almost 2 to 3 hours a day on smartphones and television.

Before continuing with this article, check your screen time. You will be surprised to learn how much time you waste daily by doing nothing on your smartphone except aimlessly scrolling.

What if you gave some of that time to books?

Today, I am going to share how reading can benefit you.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote an article about how reading affects your brain, which went viral. Here are the articles if you would like to know more.

Did any of the following questions jump into your mind regarding reading?

Can it prevent Alzheimer’s?

What about stress management?

What about longevity?

Can you live longer if you just read more?

What about vocabulary?

No doubt, reading more books will introduce you to new words.

Almost every profession requires you to be articulate and well-spoken.

Learning new words while reading is much easier than reading or memorizing them from a dictionary.

Being exposed to new words repeatedly can slowly make their way into your daily conversations.

Reading helps to improve concentration and focus.

You might also take frequent breaks to unconsciously check your phone or chat on social media.

You might realize that it’s been a completely unproductive experience.

What happened?

Reading is one habit you can cultivate, literally right now, to improve your concentration.

Reading is an ACTIVE activity that requires your utmost focus on which part to pay attention to and which to go and move on to. How do you make sure to connect ideas?

You will be amazed that reading for just 20 minutes daily will help you focus better.

Everyone wants to have more friends.

Books can be your best friends. Books are actually the best friends.

You start seeing the world through the characters’ eyes.

A mix of fiction and non-fiction should be the ideal combination for reading.

I read only non-fiction books; after researching this article, I will spend some time reading fiction. I will do it like I develop healthy habits by starting a 30-day fiction reading challenge. Are you up for it?

Even if being a writer is not your ultimate dream, you should try reading.

We think that only exercising and having the best diet are the ways to achieve it.

But there is more to it.

Something as simple as reading can be a fun way to live long.
