What Happens When Life Gives You Lemons
You get to choose whatever you want to do with it.
Recently, Gurpreet Dhariwal posed that question to me in an interview.
I said that depends but as a general rule, I throw it back and say, “I don’t want your damned lemon.”
Right on cue, life hands me a lemon.
Medium is changing it TOS, effective Sept, 1st. I saw the pop-up notice when I logged in yesterday. I clicked continue with the intention to look at it later.
I have a simple rule by which I live my life. I don’t pay much attention to news and stuff as such. If there is anything that will impact my life seriously, the Universe will find a way to direct my attention to it.
you may not agree with it, but it works for me and has saved me a ton of time and headache. Sure enough, a few hours later I came across a story by Alison Tennent that highlighted a paragraph that can be troublesome.
Later on, she published an update to her story.
Much later yesterday evening, Holly Jahangiri, who, while not a practicing attorney, knows a whole more about the legal language than most of us, wrote this story.
She also sent an email to Medium’s Legal Dept, ([email protected]), asking clarification, and updated the story with their response and her opinion on the said response.
This morning, I saw a story by Linda Caroll that sheds a different light on the TOS, or I should say presents a different perspective on what it means or could mean.
I also came across this story from Charles Roast, describing his thoughts and feelings on the subject.
I searched for opinions from Shaunta Grimes, Shannon Ashley, Tom Kuegler, and others who usually have something valuable to say, but haven’t seen anything yet.
So, as you can see, I have a lemon that life has handed me and I am trying to decide if can do something with it before I throw it back. That’s how life works most of the time.
