What Happens to Your Story When It’s Read for 11 Hours?
I write every day and if I skip a day, I make up for it and write as many as I can the next day. But there are still days when there is nothing that comes out of my mind. I take that not as a writer’s block but my mind telling me, go watch a movie.
And my go-to app is Netflix, my cousin shared his account with me, the truth is I can’t afford too many subscriptions, recently I canceled my Spotify Premium, in part because of Neil Young and the money wasn't coming, to be honest, not from writing.
But quitters never win, right?
And I love writing, I have to give writing a chance, before it gives back, because I can feel in my gut that what I wrote on my vision board will come true, $10,000 from Medium.com.
Hey, where was I?
So, with nothing to write, I watched Netflix’s Pieces of Her, only because of Toni Collette, she happens to be one of my favorite actors, and she is underrated if you ask me.
And as I was watching, I knew I could write about the miniseries after, which is why I let myself take time away from writing, to find writing prompts in the most unexpected places, including movies.
None of them were widely read, some would rank on Google, but external links don’t count, right?
After I watched Pieces of Her, I tried doing something different, I wrote a movie review with a twist, and the twist started with the headline.
Instead of my usual title for movie reviews;
Review:(Name of Movie)
I wrote this for a title;
Daughter Finds Out Her Mother Is Lying to Her for 30 Years
I added a subtitle;
When you only know pieces of her.
Up, Up and Away!
What I love about writing on Medium is that it continues to surprise me, it hasn't made me rich (yet), but it has enriched my life in so many ways.
It makes me think harder, to hustle harder and write harder
Hopefully I will end up as a very good writer.
This story which was published in ILLUMINATION is my top-performing story this month, and we still have two weeks to go.
Thank you, Dr Mehmet Yildiz, again if you are a new writer, ask the Illumination family to add you as a writer in their publications.
If you are asking, how much money have I earned so far from this story? It is $15.08 and counting.
Arigato, Money, that is $15 in my pocket.
This story may or may not be the ‘one’ that would blow up my MPP earnings, but I learned something important.
That what made me happy wasn't the money but the number of readers who took time to read the story, 96% of which are members.
Each one took at least 2 minutes to read, and I’m grateful.

In closing, I know sometimes it feels that writing here isn't worth it, but if we quit what happens next?
I know I’m here to tell stories, not all will be great, but all of them will lead me to become a great writer.
So, keep writing, there is no other way to say it. $15, is still money I won’t have now if I didn’t write, right? :)
P.S. I also write some‘ techie stuff’, and another win for the week is that The Startup not only published it, but the story made it to their Top 10 stories of the week.
Thank you Ali Mese and Elizabeth Dawber, please submit stories to their publications — Start it Up, Curious and Geek Culture.
