What Happened In Washington, D.C. on January 6 One Year Later?

It was relatively quiet

The insurrection of January 6, 2021, was unprecedented

No one anticipated that such an action which took place at the National Capitol in Washington, D.C. would ever happen. The insurrection occurred after a rally which Donald Trump held to protest the election results. No one expected the death and destruction which followed his rally.

Many people who participated that day at the Capitol placed videos of themselves on social media. They seemed happy and proud that they were part of the action.

There were hundreds of arrests made by the FBI after those people were identified from their videos. Seemingly ordinary citizens became criminals with innocent people dying that day. Some are now in prison serving time.

Luckily, the members of Congress who were in the Capitol to certify the election results, along with former Vice President Mike Pence, did not suffer death and injury as the mobs searched for them. The U.S. Capitol Police and others helped them stay safe through all the chaos.

After having spent thirteen years working in Washington, D.C., I have many friends there including some who were working in the Capitol that day.

My brother and sister in law, who live in Arlington, Virginia, had been out of town for a funeral and the holidays. They flew back into the airport at Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2022. It was exactly a year after the Capitol insurrection. They had no problems, and the area seemed peaceful.

Some people may have learned their lesson. There was so much turmoil on that day in the nation’s capital.

Thank goodness there was not a repeat of the events of January 6, 2021.
