LIFE LESSON
What Happened in a Tiny Shop in the Scorching Heat of India?
Micro insight hidden in plain sight

Summer season. India. 1998.
I and my childhood best friend, Pranjoy, were in a tiny apparel shop.
It was so small that if five or six customers entered the shop, a salesman had to go out to make space for the people inside.
There was hardly any space to move around. But still, it was quite busy thanks to its cheaply priced shirts and pants.
On top of that, it was boiling hot inside with no air conditioning; with the outside temperature hovering around 38 degrees and humidity at 90 odd degrees.
“Unbearable” would be an understatement.
My friend, who was trying out shirts, was profusely sweating.
I pointed him towards a table fan near us & we both walked towards it for some respite.
A tired-looking & completely energy-sapped salesman who was leaning on a wall near the fan for some respite, saw us coming and courteously got out of the way for us to get to the fan.
My friend caught him by his arm & said,
“We have been here only for a few minutes but you have been in this hot oven for hours. Please come back and stand near the fan. You need it more than we do”.
The poor salesman gave us a smile that I will never forget.
We got the best service that day.
Such positive acts are contagious & influence the observer to improve as a person.
A person’s true kindness & character come out NOT when all is nice & sweet.
It comes out when things are far from anything nice, sweet, good or perfect.
