What Gives You The Rest You Need Now?

Rest gives you the energy you need to be awesome

Let’s not kid ourselves. Most of us are overworked and stress these days.

Many of us are running on fumes. Are you?

I know I often am just getting through the present moment.

Why now more than ever? How do I get beyond being stressed and tired? Now is the best time to confront this everyday reality.

Lesson to Learn

What may have provided you rest in the past may no longer be working.

High stress and constant work or activity leave all unprepared to live productive lives of meaning and joy.

Passion and outcomes that matter are what most of us truly want.

We want to both give and experience the excitement of making a difference for others.

We need to ask ourselves how we find rest and recovery now — during this pandemic and severe economic downturn.

Answer for Me

Running on fumes no longer works for me. Survival mode makes me much less productive and unhappy.

It isn’t good for me in the long term.

I don’t mind sacrificing, however it cannot be done every minute of every day. The change was — and still is — needed.

Each day I ask myself this simple question. Am I well rested today?

If the answer is no, I need to decide to be better rested — and do something concrete to get my rest.

When I work from home, I may take a short nap to regain my sense of peace and energy. I ask myself how I will get more sleep tonight when I go to bed.

During the day, I assess my energy level. Is it high? What can I do about it? Could I go for a short walk, grab a cup of tea, close my eyes briefly, or do something I love for a short period?

This gives me the recovery I need. I must get better at resting throughout this pandemic, so I have the energy to both serve others and enjoy my life.

Action

Become aware of your energy levels moment by moment.

Acknowledge if you are tired, frustrated, and less productive than you used to be or want to be. It starts by owning up to your current state.

Then, learn what gives you rest. There are so many useful resources to help you become rested. For some, it is exercise, meditation, naps, playtimes, new hobbies, and a good night’s sleep.

Find your way to become a well-rested human being.

Daily Action

In the morning, assess how rested you are. Do you have the energy level you need to excel today?

Assess what you can do differently tonight to get better sleep. Also, ask yourself how you can gain some rest during your day.

How about short breaks, a short walk, time talking to a friend or colleague, or a brief moment to close your eyes?

Find ways to add more rest to your days so you can excel.

Tired, stressed people produce tired and rather useless outcomes. Go for better in your life daily!
