What truly gets you excited about your days now? This is a tough question for most of us.

Our world has been turned upside down by COVID-19, and our everyday routines have been disrupted.

Our lives have changed immeasurably. It’s time we examine what now excites us about our lives.

Lesson to Learn

We need excitement and joy to give life its fullness.

We cannot spend our entire days just getting through them.

Early in a crisis, we can focus intensely on finding a path through each challenge of each day. However, we need to find elements to be excited about and find joy within at some point.

We cannot just trudge forward.

It is likely time you need to determine what gets you excited in your new life.

By identifying exciting, pleasing, joyful, and life-giving activities, you can renew and refresh your days.

Answer for Me

What am I excited about now? This was a hard question for me. At first, I just wanted my old life back.

Now, I realize that there is no going back to a pre-COVID world.

The first thing I needed to do was admit that truth. Since I have acknowledged this reality, I have been able to identify small and large ways of acting that make me excited again.

I have relied on virtual meetings that are relaxed and more similar to my in-person meetings. I have taken on new and exciting projects in the digital space.

I spend more time writing — something I enjoy. I have noticed the beauty of nature again, and I go for walks and travel to places where I can be socially distanced and away from my work and home.

My life has many similarities to my pre-COVID-19 life. However, it is different enough that I need to determine what gets me genuinely excited again. You may need to do so too.

Action

Take time to evaluate what gets you excited about your life now. It is likely that COVID-19 has radically altered it.

Ask yourself critical questions.

Am I excited about this day?

What am I doing that I truly enjoy now? What could I start doing that I might enjoy?

When will I add new elements to my life that will help me be excited about each day?

By getting answers to these questions and others, you will build a more sustainable and enjoyable daily approach to your world from now on.

Daily Action

Don’t just survive each day. Find a way to thrive in your new world that COVID-19 has changed.

Each day, identify what you will do that is exciting and meaningful. Schedule those items first.

Actively seek to create new daily routines to embrace your new life.

By being aware of the need to adjust to your new life after COVID-19 intervened, you will be better prepared to thrive again.

We all want experiences that we can enjoy. Finding new ways to do this has never been more critical to your mental health and your effectiveness.
