What Does Yeet Hey Mean?

Have you ever heard these words before? They sound odd!

This can make me “Yeet Hey”! (photo provided vy Linda Ng)

You may have heard some Asian friends mention the word “Yeet Hey” before. But what does it mean?

I always wondered if there was a term in English that reflected the meaning of Yeet Hey. So I asked my friend, Rob, once. He hadn’t heard of the term, so I explained it to him first.

When I eat a lot of fried food or not get enough sleep, I will feel Yeet Hey.

That means my face will break out with acne. I may have some canker sores or have a sore throat. I might also have trouble falling asleep. Even worse, I could get a nose bleed! That is what happens when I feel Yeet Hey. I think some people refer to this as having a build-up of heat inside your body, perhaps due to all the fatty and greasy foods that have been consumed in a short period of time.

Rob never experiences that. He can eat all the fried food he wants and nothing will happen. Even if he throws in some barbecue food, eats fast food every day, or pulls all nighters, he won’t feel Yeet Hey.

I was so confused! I thought everyone experienced this. But so far, only my Asian friends will have this.

P.S. Chips are considered to be Yeet Hey. That is so sad because it’s my favourite!

What Do You Do If You Are Yeet Hey?

Feeling Yeet Hey is not a good thing, obviously. Who wants to have canker sores or nose bleeds?

If I made bad decisions and made myself Yeet Hey, I can help myself by making better food choices. The best way to resolve it is to eat more food considered to be “leung” or “cool”. That is what we call it and it counters the effects of being Yeet Hey.

I suppose you can think of it as dousing the internal fire inside the body.

What types of food are “leung” or “cooling” then?

  • Fruit, especially watermelon
  • Veggies
  • Herbal drinks, such as chrysanthemum
  • Soups

P.S. Mangosteen is a cooling fruit! It’s awesome if you have a build up of internal heat!

You can also try to get more quality sleep to calm your body. Drinking more water is also always a good thing! Luckily, I have a good diet lately, full of veggies and fruit. I don’t feel Yeet Hey at all!

Have you ever felt this way at all? What’s your experience of feeling Yeet Hey? Please share with me in the comments below!
