What Does It Take To Run A Business?
How much room do you really need to run a business? A warehouse? A garage? I conference building? It really depends on the type of business you own.
There are endless amounts and variation of businesses in the world. Each having their own unique demographics, size, location and space to operate. for instance:
If you own a mechanics shop, you’ll probably need a garage of some sorts.
If you own a pre-school, you’ll need a place to teach and interact with the kids.
If you own a roofing company, you’ll need some sort to storage facility for your equipment. Not to mention a house in which to put the roof!
Each one of these business can be extremely profitable, which means people can make a nice living owning and running these types of businesses.
As you may have guessed, each one of these business also needs space and some sort of brick and mortar type of facility.
But, there are businesses which can be ran in small spaces, with some basic equipment (which just about every one has now a days) and it can actually be profitable AND global!
Here are some examples of different businesses:
If you’re a writer, you’ll need some sort of keyboard and word processor program, like Medium.
If you’re a YouTuber, you’ll need some sort of video camera. I know a LOT of people who just use their phone and they do quite well financially.
If you’re a Podcaster, you can use your phone as well, but usually a better microphone is something to invest in.
Sure, each one of these type of businesses could always use better and updated equipment, but is it necessary? Nope, not at all.
I’m a firm believer in keeping things as basic as possible. I don’t like a lot of clutter in my life. Simple is just fine for me.
I’ll give you an example. If you click on the short video, I’ll take you through a tour of my “broadcast studio”, where I run my business.
I run a fitness type internet business where I write, do podcast interviews and shoot YouTube videos. The beauty is, It’s done from a small room in my house. Nothing big, nothing major, and just basic equipment.
As you can tell, I don’t have fancy stuff. I use a simple mixer/mic set up, a little webcam, a refurbished computer and a TV which was just sitting around as my monitor. My desk is an actual fold up table my parents used to use to put food on during picnics.
Could I get “better” equipment? Probably. Do I need “better” equipment? Not really. It’s all personal choice.
I will tell you this, if I were to upgrade anything, I would get a newer camera. My current camera films in 720p , I will be upgrading to something which films in 1080p HD or something equivalent in the near future, but it’s not a “have to” thing right away.
So, my point is, if you actually WANT to start, or run your business, you’ll find a way, and the space, to do so.
The more complicated you make it, the more complicated your life might be. Oh sure, some businesses need to have this complication to run smoothly, I get it. But, as I said earlier, I don’t like complication. I like to keep things simple.
The question is, which do you prefer? Only you can answer that question.
