What Does it Profit a Man (or Woman)

A poem

Little boxes on the hillside little boxes standing side by side little boxes we spend our lives for little boxes…we want more and more.

So we work and we work and we save and we save to buy a bigger box to become a bigger slave.

We’re sold a dream by the ad men we’re given money by the money men we get that bigger box we fill it full of toys we’ve finally got our treasures it’s time to make some noise.

But coming unexpected when we thought we were immune the reaper comes a calling it’s over all too soon.

You realise far too late your time has been and gone the life you never lived now rests beneath the stone.

Did it profit you at all as you make your final trade and swap your biggest box for one much smaller in which you’re laid?
