In this current moment, to have purpose to me is to have meaning.

It’s to take the scatterplot of chaos of random occurrences and to try to make the best sense, to develop a narrative, a pattern, from which we can learn, extrapolate and grow,

Knowing that this meaning is only our best guess at how the world works, for the sanity of our understanding,

Knowing that while it serves this purpose, while it serves our purpose, while it is our purpose, that this might change with additional new information that might reshape that pattern, that “line of best fit” that longer lies in the same spot of understanding as before.

To know this and to understand that purpose is meaningful and helps us tolerate the distress of chaos that it may not fit everyone nor will it fit forever —

It simply fits now as a guide for comprehension.

Lucy (The Eggcademic) [she/her] realizes that this is the SECOND graph themed poem in response to 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘊.’s weekly prompts. What’s going on here? Is Lucy missing lab work, so now she sees graphs in everything? That’s hilarious. 🤣 Find the full list of prompts here (try them out, they’re great reflective questions for your own sake even if the submission period has passed!).
