FOR PET PEOPLE ONLY

What Do You Prefer: Dogs Or Cats?

Cool Activity Below

This is my first blog post in a publication (pretty cool). I joined Medium in January after moving to London from Chicago and so far this is my 3rd post. A lot has happened since then that got in the way of writing but I am truly figuring out what I want to write about and how to showcase my most authentic self.

My main interests are travel and finance but I love animals (dogs specifically) and have the most fun with them. Dogs are the closest thing to heaven on earth! When my company transferred me to London, the thing that broke my heart was losing my dog, a Mini-Schnoodle, in a break up.

Processing those feelings were really difficult. I missed my little guy so much that it brought me physical pain. A friend recommended becoming a doggie caregiver and a spark lit up inside me. I registered with the website borrowmydoggy.com. The site connects dog owners with trusted local people who would love to look after their dog(s). I live in East London and work virtually from my flat so having some pup energy around felt amazing even as a thought. That first week, I got my first dog, then seven more within that first month. Maybe you could say I was a bit dog ambitious. lol

It was the best decision I could have ever made. Being with them is the best part of my day. Rufus, a rambunctious Golden Doodle, upgraded to sleepovers to give his pet parents alone time. Rufus wants all the attention. He gets jealous and has a tendency to shut down their special time.

16 year old Westies, Charlie and Missy, remind me of my first dog BJ; they look just like him. Poodle mixes, Zoey and Nina help me stay outdoors as we take long walks together and then get some love and playtime indoors. Evie is a prissy Pomeranian. But she’s outdone by Toto, a bougie Maltese and Bichon mix. He has no idea that he’s a dog. All the dogs have distinct personalities and they generate so much love, fun times, and joy with the things they do.

That’s what I’ll be writing about here. But today, I want you to answer a question. Are you a cat or dog person? Before you answer look at this picture and tell me what you see in the comments.

I immediately saw a dog, even though there are two cats in the picture. My mom shared the picture with me that her friend made. She said she saw both at the same time (of course she did).

I’m a finance major, but I’m also very interested in psychology. Did some internet research and pulled together some general conclusions about the psychology behind your choice of pet.

Please let me know if you think they are right or wrong. I have a curious mind and I’m always analyzing my thoughts. Match what you think with what I found and what it says about your choice.

Saw A Dog

You are probably social and like to be part of a pack. You love being part of a family or extended friend group. Dogs give a lot of affection to humans. Dogs are usually considered to be more bonded to their owners than cats.

You are probably a high energy person who feels antsy just sitting around doing nothing. Dogs tend to be very active and need daily exercise.

You thrive in a structured environment. Consistent routines and schedules help you to feel less anxious and not so rattled by surprises.

Saw The Cats

You like alone time and value your privacy. You need a lot of it because you are very independent. You tend not to want as much physical attention and don’t need to be near people or have them near you all the time.

You’re unconventional and like to do things your own way. You want to be left alone to figure things out for yourself. Forget training, you have your own way of doing things.

You are super chill. Later for jam packed busy days. You prefer a relaxed routine over a full schedule. You are less affected by changes in routine because you tend to be flexible and relaxed.

I hope you enjoyed this article.
