Also, I noted with more than a hint of regret that many of these quests to be productive were putting undue pressure on others to be productive too.

It was time to be less productive.

I set about culling my list.

Forgiveness

Let’s be real for a second. There’s a pandemic out there. We’re all in quarantine. A lot of people have lost their jobs and even those of us lucky to still be working have all but lost the structure to our days and weeks.

News cycles are punishing. Everything takes more effort. Energy levels are low. Mood can be low too. It is not a time to overload: it is a time for self-care.

That can actually mean doing less. And that is ok.

I began cancelling things. I cancelled the webinar on remote working. It can happen later in the year. I forgive myself.

I am also taking the pressure off myself to write at all. I still get huge enjoyment out of writing for Serious Scrum, but my inspiration is lower, and that is ok: it always ebbed and flowed. I forgive myself for my lower rate of publication.

Illumination is a new project for me. I have no idea how much I will write here and, you know what, I forgive myself for that uncertainty as well.

Writing this feels confessional and unusual for me. It is not how I normally write. But it feels good. For once, I didn’t automatically dismiss the idea of saying no. I forgive myself for thinking about saying no.

Also, I continue to be inspired to apply for a coaching certification. What do the Experts Say About the Tik Tok App?

Its high time to start paying more attention to your portable device and secure your devices from security vulnerabilities.

Unlike other thriving social platforms, Tik Tok is well known for its 15 seconds videos which have successfully influenced millions of users worldwide in a remarkably short period. Tik Tok is very famous, especially among teenagers for lip-syncing music lyrics, comedy skits, sharing day to day events and viral videos. Like other social platforms, Tik Tok has a separate and influential fan base with over 1.5 billion all-time downloads. Tik Tok originated in China in the name Douyin, and later marketed outside China with IOS and Android platforms compatibility. Now it is successfully accelerating its growth with nearly 800 million active users across the globe.

Since the widespread popularity of this application among the age group 16–24, raised more controversial concerns regarding online usages, complaints and online safety from time to time. Despite all the criticisms, Tik Tok thrived its ultimate fans in three years, where other social media such as Facebook and Instagram had taken four to five years to build the equivalent number of audiences.

However, Tik Tok’s burgeoning reputation in the United States has also increased questions concerning its origins in China. The controversial subjects didn’t stop there, but that caused significant political concern when the propaganda of the leaked document was found in 2019. The document revealed the direction from moderators to control Tik Tok videos that talk about Tibetan independence, prevented religious groups or Tiananmen Square. The found documents are not only aimed to control due to political reasons, but they are also instructed to scan for the features with poor appearance to narrow the audience. According to The Intercept, the leaked document was guided to suppress the uploads from Tik Tok users such as, with unpleasant features, poor environments and abnormalities in body figures including eye disorders. Some reports states, when the Hong Kong rally in 2019 was one of the major topics in twitter and other social media platforms, Tik Tok literally showed zero content.

In late 2019 Tik Tok again faced another allegation regarding its security vulnerabilities. According to the cybersecurity firm checkpoint that hackers could moderate user uploads, reveals private information such as email addresses and so on. Also, considered that there could be possibilities to create fake text messages with malicious codes to take over one’s account. Later, Luke Deshotels Tik Tok security team member stated;

“TikTok is committed to protecting user data. Like many organizations, we encourage responsible security researchers to privately disclose zero-day vulnerabilities to us, before public disclosure, CheckPoint agreed that all reported issues were patched in the latest version of our app. We hope that this successful resolution will encourage future collaboration with security researchers”

Tik Tok has officially denied its security vulnerabilities during October 2019 also stated;

“We are not influenced by any foreign government, including the Chinese government; TikTok does not operate in China, nor do we have any intention of doing so in the future.”

Surpassing all these statements, the government of India banned Tik Tok, including 59 apps developed by the Chinese companies in June 2020. Indicating threats to national security, and multiple complaints from numerous sources, accusing that these apps were stealing user data in an authorized manner. Not too later, the US and other governments are now seriously considering the fact to ban the Tik Tok concerning its security vulnerabilities. Moreover, the Australian government is also now sternly concerning to ban Tik Tok, due to doubts that the Chinese-owned platform leaks users’ information to Beijing. Also, recently Amazon instructed its employees to remove Tik Tok from their device for security concerns. But later they informed that was sent by mistake.

“This morning’s email to some of our employees was sent in error, There is no change to our policies right now with regard to TikTok”. Amazon spokesman.

What caused this huge confusion in Tik Tok in the perspective of cybersecurity?

Even though many youngsters are not aware of security threats related to sensitive data theft, it’s the main expected feature that every application must consist of. Like many other mobile applications, Tik Tok accumulates its users’ data, including details about your device details, download history, contact details, location, broadband/WIFI access details and your IP addresses. But the reason for this particular alarm is mainly connected to its ultimate connection with China, and other governments doubt that the collected data could’ve transmitted to China. According to ANU’s National Security College, senior adviser Katherine Mansted;

“The most obvious risk [with TikTok] is that Chinese Communist Party could compel TikTok to hand over data,”.

Many recent complaints and assumptions regarding the spyware in Tik Tok, went on without any evidence to prove earlier. However, with Apple’s new iOS 14 security and privacy changes successfully caught them red-handed that the Tik Tok once mentioned that they already fixed the issues.

Precautions that we can take to protect our sensitive data

Increasing device security concerns have made reconsidering our perspective regarding instant installations of mobile apps whenever we like without studying the privacy policy of the application at all. Tik Tok’s security vulnerabilities have become a hot topic due to political concerns too. Even though there are several mobile applications do similar unethical activities, that they seize our information solely because of our carelessness. Hence, this is a great time to pay some firm attention to protect our sensitive data from social media apps to game apps in our devices. What are the essential steps to enhance the security level in our devices?

 • Always keep your mobile software up to date. Updating the latest version of your mobile software is the key to protect your device from the latest security threats.
 • Always read and pay attention to any application’s privacy policy and terms and conditions, where we used to click “agree” without reading the content.
 • Use separate hard-to-guess passwords for apps in your device. Creating a strong password is the key to shield your portable device information from hackers.
 • Use valid encrypting tools to save confidential files. Moreover, encrypting phone storage also can prevent access for hackers to lead to any privacy breach.

It’s a proper time for every smartphone holder to learn deep and start paying more attention to the apps installed. Because we never know what is happening all the time behind the scene in the smartphones that we are literally carrying almost all day.
