What Can You Do If You Have Lots of Stories to SHOWCASE?

Try these 2 options to make your stories more visible and accessible to readers

I’m a very prolific writer, for better or for worse, as I brought out in a recent story titled: The Dirty Little Secret Some Prolific Writers Fail to Reveal. The result of all my productivity is my current catalog of more than 450 stories.

But as proud as I may be at having such a large portfolio, there are actually lots of writers on Medium who have written many more stories than I have.

One of my newest favorite followers is Edina Abena Jackson and trust me, this prolific writer is no joke. Not only has she recently been writing her butt off, when it comes to her short form stories, but she even has 1000 poems that we’ll be hearing a whole lot more about, come 2022.

As any writer with a mounting story catalog will tell you, it’s not easy trying to keep things organized in the most accessible way for readers to find them.

Anyone who’s been seriously following me on a regular basis, already knows how I’m always coming up with new ideas to get my stories in front of more eyeballs.

Well, I’m about to tell you about two more of those ways.

How do you showcase numerous stories?

Finding new and creative ways to showcase an abundance of stories can be a bit of a challenge.

But I honestly enjoy trying out new methods, like my VIDEO SLIDESHOWS. Wen I first talked about using Youtube videos to promote your stories, I actually had something else in mind.

But since writing that particular story, I came up with yet another way to take advantage of Youtube videos, and letting videos help get me more story exposure.

Here’s what I did:

#1 — One thing I did was create a simple slide show (using Windows Movie Maker). I saved it as an Mp3 file, and uploaded it to Youtube.

My stories slideshow video turned out pretty damn good, if I do say so myself! It allows me to showoff 30 different stories, and believe it or not; that particular slideshow doesn’t contain one single story about Medium!

Since I discovered I could showcase a lot more stories in a quicker and more creative manner, I’ve decided to create a few more of those slide show videos.

In fact, I already have another one to share with you, but since it’s connected to what I want to tell you next, we’ll put a pin in the subject of the other video for now.

#2 — The other way I’m starting to promote my stories more is by taking advantage of the “list” feature here on Medium.

For any members who don’t already know about it, the “list” feature can be easily accessed from your profile page, like you see below.

Once you have saved one or more stories into a list, you can always locate them much easier. Simply come to this page, and click to view all the lists you’ve created.

The way you save a story to a list is easy peasy. After you publish a story (or if you visit an already published story).

Notice the screenshot of the story I mentioned earlier. In it, you can see where the list icon will appear. It’s right next to the “three dots”, just like you see identified by the yellow arrow.

By clicking on this area, you can either create a new list, or add stories to an existing list. You can choose to have a story be in as many different lists as you want it to be.

It’s also easy to determine if a story is already included in a list, as soon as you visit a page. If you already have a story included in a list, the icon you see above will be black.

How helpful are lists?

The benefits to using a list can only be discovered when you actually create one or two of them, and see how easy it makes everything.

  • You’ll be able to organize your stories better, whether you have 10 or 10 hundred.
  • You can create special catalogs that contain a series of stories, based on the same theme or topic.

That’s what I did when I created a list specifically for my stories that were written about Medium publications. If you look through the various lists on my profile page, you’ll find one that says: “Tips About Publications.

Personally, I think this is a super way to have your stories laid out for readers to browse through. But believe it or not, I was even able to add on to the existing benefits of using a list.

Guess what else I did…?
