What Articles Do You Publish?

I’m a writer at Illumination. Now what?

It’s a question I get asked a lot.

“Now that I’m a writer at Illumination, what kind of article are you looking for?”

The short answer is — it’s up to you.

We love it when you submit quality articles with copyright-free images that are accredited and linked back to the source. Anything else gets delayed as we have to ask for edits, check for copyrights, and in some sad cases, run it through a plagiarism checker. If we get a lot of these, it bogs down the entire queue and slows everyone’s story down.

Illumination is open to accepting articles that cover a wide variety of topics, so your particular writing niche is likely to be included.

Publications on Medium use tags to sort stories.

Go to the home page of the publication and look at the tabs or topics along the top. For Illumination, they are: BUSINESS & ECONOMY POETRY & FICTION PHILOSOPHY & SELF SCIENCE & TECH LOVE & RELATIONS POLITICS & SOCIETY SPIRIT & RELIGION

Each of these tabs or topic pages displays stories that have a certain TAG.

TAGS are like the sorting hat at Hogwarts.

Publications on Medium use navigation tags to sort articles into pages. (there are other fancy ways to format a publication, but this is the simplest one.)

These are the tags to use for Illumination:

  • Business*
  • Poetry
  • Philosophy
  • Technology
  • Relationships
  • Politics
  • Spirituality

*If you use Economy, it won’t be sorted into the Business & Economy tab, because you didn’t use the TAG ‘business’.

Now that you understand how the TAGS work, you’ll have some ideas of what types of stories to submit.
