What Are You Celebrating Today?

3 Ways to Increase Your Positive Feelings

Photo by Clay Banks on Unsplash

People of our time are losing the power of celebration. Instead of celebrating we seek to be amused or entertained. Celebration is an active state, an act of expressing reverence or appreciation. To be entertained is a passive state — it is to receive pleasure afforded by an amusing act or a spectacle. Celebration is a confrontation, giving attention to the transcendent meaning of one’s actions. ― Abraham Joshua Heschel

I believe that every day is a celebration. We have another day to bring light into the world. I light candles every day to invoke a celebratory feel to my home. On my 100-day journey exploring abundance, this week I am feeling an overflow of joyful celebration!

Their flickering light brings a glow to each day.

It is my hope for the world that we can celebrate every moment. Looking outside at nature reminds me that I am still here, a part of this Earth today.

Every week my son and I plan some things to make our days exceptional. We choose to celebrate our moments together.

Whenever we are in celebration, it raises our spirits.

The question is, how can we celebrate every day? Whenever we think of a celebration, we think of a holiday, birthday, or anniversary. If we change our thinking, we can incorporate a celebratory feeling into our everyday lives.

Yesterday I suggested to my client group that we try an experiment. Each day we can write one sentence about something we are celebrating.

Often during our zoom meeting, there is a conversation about home projects each member is completing. Someone might say: “I only cleared out one area last week.” or “I just managed to do my dishes today.”

What if we could change the language into one of celebration?

If you say: I am celebrating that I cleared out one drawer today. It brings the focus to something you accomplished. Then, you are more likely to keep going.

Celebrating life is not just about bringing out the champagne. It is about changing the way we talk about our lives.

Keep a Celebration Journal:

Each day in your journal, you can write a simple sentence:

I am celebrating_________________________________________.

This activity is simple but very powerful. It activates us and makes us feel more positive.

Instead of just listing what we accomplished that day, we are celebrating.

It helps to cement the goals that you have set. When you document your wins each day, you create more excitement. Those positive feelings then lead to more action. The chain has started!

Here is my example from yesterday:

I am celebrating the success of trying a new cauliflower recipe.

This year I have decided to eat more vegetables and more vegetarian dishes. It was exciting that my crispy-cauliflower side dish was a big hit with my family.

Smile, Dance, and Clap:

When you get your whole body involved in a celebration, it will further solidify your success.

As soon as you accomplish something in your day, no matter how small, smile, dance, clap, jump up and down. Do something that activates a happy feeling.

Whenever I am on a call with my clients, I made sure to clap, do a thumbs-up, cheer, or any other show of celebration when they are proud of what they have done.

I feel as though I am a natural-born cheerleader, although I was not one in school.

Be a cheerleader for yourself. You deserve to celebrate all that you are at this moment.

All too often, we wait for others to celebrate us. Not everyone, not even those close to us, is capable of doing that for us. It is up to us to be proud of ourselves, to bring that love to our hearts.

Do not wait for someone else to celebrate you. Give that gift of celebration to yourself.

Plan Celebrations Every Week:

As a family, we plan celebrations every week.

On Wednesdays, my son and I get a special take-out lunch and enjoy it together. We love to chat about all kinds of things while we eat our lunch. It is fun to choose different restaurants each week.

On the weekends, we have food adventures. We seek out different food carts or restaurants. It broadens our horizons. We find it is a fun way to celebrate all of the work we accomplished during the week.

Another way to create an air of celebration is to use your fanciest dishes or glasses every day. For breakfast, I use a cup and saucer for my morning coffee. It makes me feel like I am in a luxury hotel every day.

Create a toast to yourself by drinking water with a lemon slice or sparkling water out of a wine glass during a meal. You can even raise your glass and say: Cheers to me for accomplishing so much today!

Toasting to your accomplishments brings them into focus.

We are all meant for greatness in this life. The more love that we put into our celebrations, the more we can accomplish.

Finding ways to celebrate each week shows life and the universe that you are seeking joy. The love that you put into your days will bring you happiness, which ripples throughout the universe.

My prayer and my intention for you today is for you to find ways to celebrate each day. Your life is precious. You have come here to create. Your unique point of view is just what we need right now. When you celebrate yourself, you send love to your heart.

Within a celebration is love. That love radiates out as encouragement for further action.

Celebrating your accomplishments is not a trivial thing. It is something that sets the tone for all of your days. Each day that we get to live is cause for celebration.

Raise your glass, dance, and clap. This day is for you!
