What Are You Afraid Of?
Horror doesn’t scare me. Real life does.
Horror is limited to a screen, to a page, but it can go as far as the imagination dares to stretch it. In the end, we know the monsters aren't real.
The truest monsters, and the scariest, are the real ones. The ones that live inside us, or the ones around us.
Why do you think the true horror stories hit so much harder than the fictional ones? In the back of our heads, we know the boogeyman isn't real. We know it's just a story. But what about the true stories? The neighbor's feud that turns deadly, the domestic abuse, a wildfire obliterating an entire town, or just plain losing a loved one?
I’m not afraid of Freddy Krueger, or Pennywise, or Dracula. I’m afraid of the criminals that are allowed to walk free. The people that have tried to harm me that found no consequence. I’m afraid of loss.
