What Actually Is A Dignified Death?
Some are calling for the UK law to allow voluntary euthanasia🙄
I was shocked that there is a renewed effort, (obviously by some people, I believe have not got it right) for the United Kingdom to legalise people killing themselves, for whatever reason, these people may have. Now they have used the odd term, ‘DIGNIFIED DEATH’ One MP (member of the parliament) wrote,
‘Right to dignified death should never be denied.’
This MP, Paul Bloomfield said his father killed himself when he learnt that he had inoperable cancer. One Paul Hart continued the rant,
‘’I would like to comment on the subject of voluntary euthanasia. I believe there should be sites throughout the UK. In these times there are many reasons for not wishing to continue with life and I cannot understand why people think they have a right to deny anyone a dignified death. It is a belief that you have a right to live, you must therefore believe that you have a right to die.’’
THE LAW
‘’In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, assisting a suicide is a crime. Those convicted could face up to 14 years in prison. There is no specific crime of assisting a suicide in Scotland. But it is possible that helping a person to die could lead to prosecution for culpable homicide.’’
What Is ‘Dignity’ According To The English Language?
Although English is my second language, I still understand the word DIGNITY perfectly. Cambridge/Oxford dictionary said it is:
‘A state of being worthy of respect and honour. the quality of a person that makes him or her deserving of respect, sometimes shown in behaviour or appearance’.
I don’t understand why people should think assisted suicide is worthy of any dignity. This is where I believe the English language errs. If you want to die and want another to assist you in doing it, then both of you are undignified in your action. It does not matter whether the person assisting is a corporation or not.
Advocates Of Voluntary Euthanasia
According to Wikipedia, the advocates of voluntary euthanasia are people living with incurable illnesses, or pain, or who just lost the will to live. How on earth will you judge if a person today has lost his hope of living, but decides to solder on tomorrow? We would have assisted him to die, without him finding that hope in life, perhaps, a vital lesson he needs for his spiritual development.
Most people live irresponsible lives today, not giving a ‘F**K, about others, not to talk of caring for them. We have stories of children killing their parents for Insurance money, or wanting to take over the parents' inheritance quickly than the parents are ready to let go. Thinking about it, today’s children will definitely support euthanasia. There are many such stories in ‘TRU TV’, to make anyone regret having children.
The Right To Die Needs Clarification
According to PMC (PubMed Central), if the right to die, is a person’s wish, why do you need someone to assist them to do it? Personally, apart from those in psychotic states, who do kill themselves, mainly because of auditory hallucination (hearing voices to do something bad), the others are to me committing gruesome and unjustifiable acts.
How Religion Views Assisted Suicide
Most religious group frown on ending one’s life, having the utmost respect for life. God is the giver of life, and He is the only one that determines its end.
Therefore most religious groups oppose Voluntary Euthanasia
The Takeaways
- Death by suicide remains a grievous sin in most religions.
- “But in the end, one needs more courage to live than to kill himself.” ― Albert Camus
- “Sometimes even to live is an act of courage.” Lucius Annaeus Seneca
