What a Writer’s Mind Might Look Like in Fabric

Chaotic but brilliant

It’s my opinion that all writers are brilliant! Especially today when so many people can’t put two words together that makes any sense at all. Or they communicate in a dialect consisting of only four-letter words.

It’s a beautiful thing to read a story that resonates with knowledge, reason, wisdom, experience, hopes, dreams, and beauty! When you think that it all starts as thoughts in the brain of someone who just wants to share those flashes of brilliance with others, it’s truly awesome!

As a fabric artist, as well as a writer, I wanted to create something simplistic but evocative of what a writer’s mind might look like if interpreted in fabric.

The cover photo for this article is my finished piece. Let me give you a tour of some of the elements you’ll find in a writer’s mind.

A close look at a writer’s mind

  • Loose Threads — Don’t we all have these loose threads dangling in every direction? Unfinished thoughts and ideas that sometimes run in straight or curvy lines.
  • Meandering pathways — Especially those that seem to end up back where they started
  • Lots of vanilla area — This is where nothing of any consequence happens.
  • Flashes of brilliance — A brilliant idea that breaks the boredom of all that vanilla with a flash of color.
  • Black holes — Though small, don’t we fall into these occasionally? Thank goodness they’re small or none of us would ever be seen again…
  • An occasional bloom — Every so often, one of our brilliant stories will grow, bud, and then bloom, capturing the notice of readers who pass close to our horizon.
  • Self-doubt — A dark cloud on the edge of our consciousness that wants to sneak in and rob us of our confidence, originality, spirit, and desire to write.

I hope you enjoyed the tour.
