Poetry Prompt

What a Stroke of Luck I Caught You When I Did

I need to tell you something before you go

Though I know you crave attention I shall not stroke your ego Nor any other part of you

How your brain works is a mystery To all except your acolytes Perhaps you had a stroke And no-one noticed

If I were Frida Kahlo I would have painted you out of existence With one Mexican brush stroke Defying orders and borders

While you polish your golf stroke Your nation teeters I struggle to find the USA I admired from far away in Africa

(Much as I mourn for Mandela’s Vision for Mzansi)

But I had a dream

On the stroke of midnight The men and women assembled round the Oval table (All that was left of the office Where once dignity and leadership prevailed)

With one stroke of the pen an executive order was signed The deed was done He was gone

The future holds hope!

In the meantime, let’s counter with laughter to ease the tension.
