West Coast Beach

Chapter 2: Escaping Embarrassment

As they walked north on the public beach toward the nude beach, they gazed up, they noticed the hang gliders making use of high cliffs near the beach. It was mid-afternoon, there was still time to get sunburn in the California sun. (They got sunburn where the sun usually doesn’t shine.)

A green light in the distance seemed to beckon them. As they approached the nude beach, a change in spirit indicated all things were possible. (Much like a green traffic light. All things would go.)

They noticed the people attending the nude beach didn’t seem to be as fit as the people that frequented the public beach. They tried hard to find a fit specimen in the crowd of people patronizing the nude part of Black's beach but to no avail. You might say the bulk of people patronizing the nude part of Black’s beach was fat. The group’s male members had disrobed down to their birthday suits. Suddenly they collectively felt weird as the surrounding nude beach patrons gazed upon them.

Even the hang gliders didn’t seem to soar as gracefully at this part of the beach. There were no surfers at this part of the beach.

Sally: The people, at this part of the beach, seem out of shape and have potbellies.

Mike: Nobody is surfing.

Dave: I noticed that too.

Judy: I’m glad I didn’t disrobe any farther than my swimming suit.

Sally: Me too, I would have felt very peculiar.

The group of friends walked to the end of the nude beach. The end of the nude beach was a barrier of rocks that prevented anyone from walking further north.

When they were at the end of the beach, they discovered the green light that seemed to have beckoned them was nothing more than a neon sign in front of a restaurant across the road from the beach.

They were the fittest on the beach as they felt the gazes of many eyes. At that point, the males decided to put their swimming suits back on.

Tom: I think I have experienced enough of this nude breach. I'm going to put my swimming suit back on.

Rafael: Me too.

Mike: I’ve had enough of it as well.

Phyllis: I was wondering how long it would take you all to come to your senses.

The rest of the males in the group followed suit. Feeling more at ease, they ventured into the ocean.

Dave: I’ll try body surfing.

John: I’ll try swimming out as far as I can, then I will turn around and come back for exercise.

The group soon exhausted the available things they could try to keep entertained in the ocean. They all left the water and began to dry out in the sun.

It was mid-afternoon, and the members of the close nit group of friends were starting to notice that they were getting sunburned. They started putting their clothes on top of their swimming suits.

The group started walking south toward the public part of the beach. There seemed to be no lifeguards and no paramedics monitoring the beach. The nude part of the beach was swimming at your own risk.

There was only one volleyball net set up at the nude part of Blacks beach. Maybe the lack of exercise equipment had something to do with the majority of the nude beach patron’s level of fitness.

John: I have only seen one volleyball net in the nude part of the beach, compared to so many I last track of in the public part of the beach.

Mike: I noticed the same thing.

Dave: That’s either because they don’t fund the nude part of the beach as well as the public part of the beach, or they think the people who patronize the nude part of the beach won’t utilize it.

The group continued heading southward in an attempt to exit the nude beach. Soon they reached the boundary to the public beach.

They quickly traversed the public part of the beach to the beach access point.

Judy: Lifeguards and paramedics are all over the public part of Black's beach.

Sally: I noticed that too.

Dave: I guess they are against free spirits.

The group continued back through the beach access point to Tom’s loaner car.

Sally: What if Tom’s car overheats on the way back.

Mike: Yea… We should probably carry extra jugs of water in case the car overheats again.

Tom: We will have to be very careful with the car, and choose our break stops frequently.

They were very careful to drive slowly and take breaks at inviting areas, such as well-lit gas stations, to avoid overheating Tom’s loaner car on the way back to Pomona.
