West Coast Beach
Chapter 9: Solving the problem.
Dave and Rafael saw John in the distance carrying what looked like two milk jugs. Simultaneously, they saw Tom returning empty-handed.
John and Tom continued coming in until they were within hearing distance of Dave and Rafael. It was now approaching noon.
Dave: Hey Tom… Don’t overexert yourself…
Tom: I couldn’t find any containers for the water.
Rafael: It looks like John has two containers of water. That's a good thing.
John: Wow, I didn’t think I’d make it back in this heat. I swear, this walk looking for water seems almost as difficult as my continental bike ride crossed the United States.
By this time, the radiator had cooled down tremendously as they added water to the radiator.
Rafael: The SUV’s radiator has cooled down a lot during the hours we've been waiting for you guys to get back with the radiator water. Now we just need to add the water and see if she starts.
The engine cranked slowly at first, but gradually the spinning became faster and greater until it sounded like one tone.
The car started, they could let go of their breadth and continued the distance to “Black’s Beach.
Each member of the group climbed back into the vehicle, careful to place a towel between them and the hot vinyl upholstery, which the sun had heated to a melting point.
Sally: I’m so excited, soon we’ll be at the beach.
July: Yea, I know what you are feeling. I never thought I would be this enthusiastic to finally get to the Beach.
Phyllis: Yea… The cool ocean will feel good.
Mike: Well the sooner we load into the vehicle, the sooner we can get going and get there.
The members of the group were all loaded into the vehicle. Tom took the helm once again as they undertook the journey back to Blacks Beach.
Finally, there was one stoplight between them and beach access. By the end of the day, each friend could cross one item off their bucket lists.
