We’re All Going To Become Rich By Writing On Medium

How we lose focus on writing and start becoming dreamers

When we first started writing, we had our reasons. Many of us who started in this craft were not thinking about earning an income from it. We are just writing just for the simple joy of it. It is a way to express ourselves and let our voice be heard and not worry about the technical aspects of it. We were not focused on trends, algorithms, or stats. We were writing for our reasons.

We all have heard the stories. This is the latest method to make you rich from writing, and you can quit your day job. Many of these ideas are a mixed bag to increase one’s income. I am not saying they don’t work, as I have been able to supplement my income on Medium, but I am not rich, and as of this writing, I cannot quit my day job and become a full-time writer on Medium. If anything, I think I hit my peak. I do hope I am wrong.

This is what brings me to my point. When we have been writing for years and all this, suddenly we found a way to make money from it. What can be more rewarding than that?

When I first signed up for Medium a year ago, I figured it was a way to get my writing out there and see what would happen. I went through many ups and downs and wondered if it was worth it as my writing only made two to three dollars a month.

I then changed my methods and a few other things and started seeing significant increases and growth, and then I had a decrease for this month.

I started to feel less motivated to write, even though I pushed myself to do it. Was I even writing for the joy of writing anymore?

I concluded that I was too focused on growth and becoming a statistic chaser. I became overly obsessed with my goals with writing and trying to find a way to get out of this slump I found myself in.

You could say I found myself lost in this realm of chasing after numbers. I believe it happens to many writers on this platform, as many writers here always write about their statistics.

When one achieves a milestone, yes, one should be proud to have their moment in the spotlight and continue with that momentum, but as a writer, one must also prepare for setbacks.

Therefore, I am going to take what I can from this platform, see what I can get from it, and put out the best writing that I am capable of.

While being a writer may not make me rich, it does bring me a bit of happiness. It is time to rediscover that aspect of writing once again.
