Welcome to Journal of Journeys
Medium’s newest publication for true to life stories

I’ve always had an overwhelming urge to tell my story. I’m of the belief, each of us have walked a unique path, completely unseen to those around us. You never know just what someone has been through, until they tell you. There are invaluable life lessons to be learned from each one of those stories, whether we realize it or not. Journal of Journeys wants your story.
How I began writing on Medium, was through taking up a daily journal practice, as the stoics and one of my favorite authors Ryan Holiday suggest to. I wrote in a leather bound notebook for 7 days straight but found it mundane, pointless and boring. I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve always enjoyed an audience. So I took one of those journal entries, published it here on Medium and submitted it to The Ascent. The rest, as they say, is history.
I’ve been publishing my stories here for the last year and a half and have always flirted with the idea of starting a publication. I’ve seen the hard work people like Erika Sauter, DiAmaya Dawn, Jeff Barton and Steve Campbell have put in on their own publications and knew I wanted to eventually follow suit. I’m happy to announce, today is the day I’m finally putting that idea into action — with the help of the super talented and hard working Brian Kurian.
The vision we have for Journal of Journeys is one of passion and truth. It’s a place where we’ll come to publish our truths as we come to know and discover them. Where we’ll share stories of our successes, mistakes, tragedies and failures. All with the hope that somebody out there can learn something from them. We’re hoping all of you will join us in that mission, as it’s one we truly believe in.
While we’re still learning and growing, our aim is to do so as a community. To learn from each other’s stories and help one another grow through telling them. While Journal of Journeys will exclusively publish non fiction stories, we don’t want to limit them to the life lesson variety. We look forward to publishing thought pieces filled with your opinions and experiences as well as posts filled with raw and real emotion. If any of the above, describes your writing — we strongly encourage you to apply as a writer. We want this community to be inclusive and non elitist. We certainly don’t have an exclusionary vision.
So we urge you to follow us and check back regularly, as we move forward in building this place up into something truly remarkable and special. We believe in ourselves and our stories and you and yours as well. There is a magic in sharing your life experiences and having others connect with them. It helps all of us realize, we’re more connected than we appear to be and feel a little less alone in a life that isn’t always easy. Sharing our feelings helps others understand who we are and where we’re at. It shows others what’s possible.
We look forward to sharing our stories with all of you and hope you’ll share yours with us as well. Follow us on our journey and think of this publication as our open journal. We can’t wait for all of you to have a peek inside.
Update From Founding Editor Brian Brewington:
While we could not be more grateful and honored at the number of requests to be added as a writer we have received since launching over two years ago, unfortunately not only is our current list of writers a bit beyond capacity at the moment but the requests asking to be added have become just too much to realistically keep up with. I apologize to anyone who commented asking to be added as a writer who I didn’t get a chance to respond to or add but we will eventually begin making room for new writers and adding them at some point in the future and when we do I will start with those who previously requested below. In the meantime, writers can feel free to still comment asking to be added as a writer if they’d like, just understand we’re not adding writers or responding to new requests at the moment, and hope you understand. Again, my apologies to anyone who didn’t get added that asked. Thank you all for helping to make JOJ a continued success as a publication and community here on Medium. We couldn’t do it without you.
I will add any and all future updates on adding new writers to this post.
