Summary

The web content discusses a collection of unusual laws from various countries, including Poland's ban on Winnie the Pooh clothing, France's beachwear regulations, Scotland's historical prohibitions on riding cows while intoxicated, Australia's restrictions on kite flying and public games, and the United Arab Emirates' strict penalties for swearing.

Abstract

The article "Weird Law from Around the World for Medium Site. Vol.2" presents a series of peculiar and outdated laws from different nations, reflecting cultural idiosyncrasies and historical contexts. In Poland, a law prohibits the wearing of Winnie the Pooh apparel due to the character's lack of pants, suggesting a conservative stance on children's media. France mandates the wearing of Speedos on beaches, eschewing more modest swimwear options. Scotland's 19th-century laws, which include bans on riding cows or carrying firearms while drunk, seem to address public safety and animal welfare concerns of the era. Australia's southwestern Victoria region outlaws kite flying and public games, aiming to prevent public nuisance. The United Arab Emirates enforces a zero-tolerance policy on swearing and indecent emojis, reflecting its commitment to honor and modesty in public conduct.

Opinions

  • The author questions the rationale behind Poland's ban on Winnie the Pooh clothing, considering it an overreaction to a cartoon character's attire.
  • The French beachwear regulations are met with a sense of discomfort by the author, who feels nearly naked in a Speedo.
  • Scotland's old laws are viewed as a reflection of the eccentricities of past generations, with the author acknowledging the sensibility of not carrying firearms while drunk.
  • The author expresses disbelief at Australia's ban on kite flying and public games, suggesting that such laws may stifle enjoyment and fun.
  • The strict anti-swearing laws in the United Arab Emirates are seen as a significant cultural shift for visitors from countries where swearing is more socially acceptable, with the author highlighting the severe consequences of violating these laws.

Another strange and weird law for you. YAY! Enjoy.

Poland

In Poland, don’t Wear Your Winnie the Pooh T-Shirt. It is ban because Winnie doesn’t wear pant. They think it is “risqué” for young people.

I say “it only a cartoon” Why be picky on the little things? Cartoon and animals are cute and they don’t wear clothes.

French

If the men going to beaches then they are only allowed to wear “Speedos” can’t wear loose-fitting trunks or t-shirt.

I never wear them before. It feel almost naked if I try it on.

Scotland

This crazy idea of “Illegal to Ride a Cow Drunk” was from 1872. Also horse, carriage, and steam engine. One other law is “Don’t carry a loaded firearm while drunk” I think that really make sense, no complain there.

I guess people before 1900’s does some crazy things. I wouldn’t try to do it because I might fall and get hurt or worse break my neck and die.

Australia

To Fly a kite in southwestern part of Victoria, Australia is illegal. As well as playing game in public place because it annoys someone. law pass in 1966.

Holy smoke! really? Are they boring people or something? So, the people there can’t enjoy themselves there? I guess if I go visit for a holiday in Australia. I would avoid that part of town. I gotta have fun!

Arab

In the Muslim United Arab Emirates. You cannot swear or you will be fined, jailed or deported. They say it “ swearing disgraces the honour or the modesty of a person”. Speaking, text, physical gestures, and social media. No swearing at any time or any other way. Indecent emojis as well. One man who was mad “did it” and got 3 weeks jail times.

Wow, no swearing? If the people from the other counties got used to swearing and then went on tour in Arab would have a hard times avoiding it. What a harsh law.
