Weird dreams and the occasional Sleepwalk

My life is more interesting when I’m asleep

I was in my twenties and living with my family in Fort Worth Texas. We had converted the garage into a bedroom. It was for my grandmother who had come to live with us from Denver Colorado. She needed a bedroom.

He looked like he could have been a friend of my little brother

When she passed away, I claimed the bedroom for myself. I woke up one morning and lay in bed listening to my parents talk in the kitchen. As I lay there, a teenaged boy appeared, he had long dark hair and he was wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

As I lay in bed and watched, the teenager evaporated; one minute he was there, then he was gone. I told my parents about it. I recounted what I heard them talking about in the kitchen; they confirmed the conversation.

The giant snake was next to my head

When I was a teenager in Japan, the Scout Troop I was in went on a fifty-mile hike. Two nights before our return to base camp, we were sleeping under a tarp tied to trees. I was dreaming about snakes.

I rolled over in my sleeping bag and saw a snake by my head. I started screaming, “ snake, snake, snake.” As I screamed I beat the snake with my fist.

The campsite erupted. Everyone was screaming, Where’s the snake? Where’s the snake?” The guy sleeping next to me wanted to know why the hell I was beating on his leg.

We settled down; once we realized there was no snake, but I was the brunt of a lot of teasing. We laughed and cut up until the Troop Leader told us to knock it off and get some sleep.

I’m glad I don’t sleep naked

The thing that freaks me out the most; I sleepwalk. I don’t know how often I do this, but I do it. My parents told me that I once stood in their bedroom doorway; in the middle of the night.

I stood there and spouted gibberish, then I turned around and went back to bed. I had no memory of this, It happened again years later. My wife and I have different sleeping habits. She tends to stay up late, but I go to bed early most nights.

She said that one night I got up and opened the bedroom door and stared at her on the sofa; Without a word, I turned around and went back to bed.

Maybe I need therapy

Along with the occasional nightmares, I wonder what is going on in my tortured psyche. I started keeping a dream journal. Sometimes I come up with short stories, but most of the time I forget the dreams as soon as I wake up.

I used to believe there was symbolism in dreams, I don’t buy that crap anymore. dreams are a filing and housekeeping system for our brains. There’s no hidden or spiritual meaning to them.

They do create interesting stories though.

Final thought:

Pay attention to your dreams, but don’t take them too seriously, and never sleep in the nude. It could be embarrassing if you are visiting someone overnight. Also, keep a dream journal, a lot of interesting stories can come from dreams.
