Build Muscle and Lose Fat
With the Carnivore Diet
I recently came across the so-called “Elon Musk of the health and fitness industry” — Dr. John Jaquish.
Dr. John Jaquish is not your typical fitness guru. A quick look at his Instagram page convinced me he’s different, and it’s probably worth reading his book titled “Weight Lifting is a Waste of Time” coming out in less than 10 days.
I spent about 10 mins on his Instagram page and I was like “I’ve never heard anyone say the things he’s saying”. He goes against conventional wisdom.
Here are six things about him that got me thinking:
1. He’s middle-aged (might be 50), weighs 240 lbs, with six-pack abs, and he’s not eating every 2–3 hours.
“You grow when you sleep which is why it’s not important when you get your nutrition during the day. I even eat one meal every 48 hours so I can take advantage of a longer fasted period.”
According to Dr. Jaquish, you build muscle while you sleep, and you don’t have to eat throughout the day. He eats a few pounds of steak once every 48 hours.
Conventional wisdom says you need to keep protein synthesis high in the muscles throughout the day, and so you need to eat protein every 2–3 hours.
But not according to Dr. Jaquish. With his body, he got me thinking!
2. He references Journal Articles in all his posts.
Dr. Jaquish doesn’t just post anything, he sources his information from studies published in Academic Journals.
3. He’s partners with Tony Robbins
I’m a huge fan of Tony Robbins. I trust him as a life coach. He inspires me, and he knows his stuff.
Dr. Jaquish’s profile says “Partners with Tony Robbins”.
My thoughts: “He must be doing something right if he’s partners with Tony Robbins!”
4. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son bought an X3.
The “X3” is apparently Dr. Jaquish’s machine or tool to build muscle. You don’t need a gym. You need 10 mins with an X3.
The X3 seems to be a bar with a band. I haven’t had the chance to do more research on it. BUT for Patrick Shwarzenneger to buy one?! I think Dr. Jaquish is onto something.
5. If you’re in a caloric deficit and still eat enough protein, you can build muscle and lose fat at the same time!
Now, this goes against everything the bodybuilding industry teaches you.
You either build muscle or lose fat, but doing both is extremely difficult to do. You need to cycle carbs on different days, and pro athletes never do both. You either bulk or cut.
6. You don’t need carbs, you just need meat.
He’s against carbs, and pro-Carnivore Diet. He hasn’t had fruits or vegetables in two years, and says his blood work is all normal! I don’t know how he did two years without carbs. I’m definitely not trying this part.
