Abstract

The article titled "Weekly Prompt: Revolution" is a call to action for writers to explore the theme of revolution in its most raw and impactful form. It describes revolution as a powerful force that begins with a spark and grows into an unstoppable movement capable of reshaping the world. The piece references the US political shift, likened to a "Blue Tide," as an example of a modern-day revolution. It distinguishes revolution from evolution, emphasizing its biased, single-minded, and often confrontational nature against established norms. The article cites recent global events such as Occupy, the Arab Spring, the George Floyd protests, and the global lockdown as instances of rapid and sometimes brutal change. Writers are challenged to capture this transformative heat in a story of exactly 100 words, with submissions due by Thursday 23rd, 7 PM CEST, and are instructed to tag their stories with "Revolution" for proper categorization.

Opinions

Weekly Prompt: Revolution

Change that starts with a spark and burns the whole damn world down.

This is the fun one, the fast and furious change. Change that has a momentum of its own — carried headless down the hill unable to stop until it has transformed the world around it.

Out with the old and in with the new

The US has had a revolution of sorts this year when the so-called Blue Tide swept out the detritus of poor-decisions from the sullied Oval Office.

I may be biased.

Revolution is different from an unthinking Evolution

It is biased and single-minded. It’s a fiery strong opinion on how things should be, a vocal shout, a building roar of discontent and a crashing against the walls of established authority.

Whether its Occupy, the Arab Spring, the George Floyd protests, the myriad demonstrations and gatherings around the world, the social media opinion tides, the world has seen a lot of quick and at times brutal change.

The Global Lockdown was a paradigm shift in what constitutes democratic freedoms. Time will tell if that triggers push-back revolution or if it calcifies into the norm. There have been sparks aplenty.

Write a story, in strictly 100 words, that captures the spark and transformative heat of revolutionary change.

  • Deadline is Thursday 23rd, 7 PM CEST.
